My Hero Academia Season 5 Episode 22 “Even if you stumble in life, you can pick yourself back up again.” “All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy.” That’s the central question that the Joker poses in Alan Moore’s Batman: The Killing Joke, but it’s a concept that’s been prevalent throughout the histories of many of My Hero Academia’s villains. The events of “Sad Man’s Parade” explore how Twice’s life in particular has had a dark domino effect that progressively pushed him to his life of crime....

Nancy Drew Season 2, Episode 9 Nancy Drew brings back the Bobbsey Twins to tell one of its darkest stories to date in “The Bargain of the Blood Shroud,” an hour that sees Gil Bobbsey steal the magical artifact that resurrected George and threaten to use it again even though he is well aware that to do so will certainly mean her death. Truly, it’s a bit upsetting that Gil Bobbsey – another fictional staple of my childhood – is actually such a monster in this episode that he would willingly sacrifice George’s life for the slimmest chance of finding out whether a dying old man killed his mother....

Is it good news? It is for the cast, obviously, who won’t have to rely solely on UK panto roles and Strictly Come Dancing to pay the bills. It’s also good news for fans of cancelled shows everywhere crossing their fingers for resurrection. (Come on, The OA, we just have to believe.) For viewers though, it feels like… medium news, a bit like finding out the family pet you buried months earlier has come back to life....

The blockbuster this month is probably The Umbrella Academy season 2. The next installment for the Hargreeves family arrives on July 31. And if that’s too long of a wait for you, Netflix gets the month off to a strong start with a string of originals as well. Unsolved Mysteries arrives on July 1, followed by Warrior Nun on July 2, and The Baby-Sitter’s Club on July 3. That’s not even to mentioned the feminist take on Arthurian legend, Cursed, which premiers on July 17....

In terms of good stuff, Netflix is offering the second series of the brilliantly wry and surprisingly touching The End of the Fing World for any UK viewers who didn’t catch it on Channel 4. There’s also the excellent animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (we loved it. 5 stars.) as well as Boots Riley’s inventive, funny, political satire Sorry to Bother You (we also loved it. 4.5 stars.) On top of that, you can take a nostalgic trip to Capeside with all six seasons of Dawson’s Creek or watch emotionally repressed royals deal with the advent of the 1980s in season four of The Crown....

Then there’s 2019’s Shazam, a more comedic take on the DC universe starring comedian Zachary Levi as Billy Batson, a boy who is transformed into a powerful adult superhero by a wizard. It’s the stuff of fairy tales but told in a tongue-in-cheek way, as Levi goes through the usual superhero origin story antics with relish. The movie’s irreverent superhero humor has made it one of the most well-received superhero movies of the DCEU era, which at the time had just been absolutely clobbered with the release of Joss Whedon’s version of Justice League....

The game is combat-heavy and eschews a traditional class-based system for a weapons-based one in which custom build-outs and skillsets are tied to weapons. Combat feels similar to Dark Souls: dodge rolls, blocking, and perfectly timed strikes are keys to victory in a fight. But the responsiveness isn’t quite as razor-sharp as what you’d experience in the Souls games, but considering the game is an MMO, I left impressed with how it played overall....

The news comes just months after Agents of SHIELD wrapped its seven season run on ABC. While that show was ostensibly part of the broader MCU continuity, and launched itself out of the events of the first Avengers film, it always felt a little disconnected from the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper, despite two brief cameos from Jackson himself relatively early on. And since it was always at the mercy of the bigger events happening on screen, it never really got to delve into the deeper history and machinations of the MCU’s ultimate spy agency....

This is obviously big news for Nickelodeon fans everywhere, as well as those who have been craving a Smash Bros.-like experience and don’t own a Switch, so it’s hardly a surprise that this reveal quickly inspired many of those fans to start a surprisingly heated debate over who the most powerful Nickelodeon character is and who will emerge from this upcoming brawl as the undisputed champion. It was a surprise when Nomi, the new and chic MI6 agent played by Lashana Lynch, surrendered her 007 codename in No Time to Die. Before that third act moment, she’d made a point of fiercely carving out the designation as her territory. She even delighted in the way everyone at MI6 called her by that title in front of old man James Bond. If handled in a different era, or by different actors, this all might’ve played as antagonistic or unlikable, but in the case of the dynamic between Lynch and Daniel Craig, and in director Cary Joji Fukunaga’s hands, it was deeply entertaining....

The stories are fantastic and the recent drop of the first half of the second season on Netflix is the shows strongest yet.
