Actually, the most recent Nintendo Switch Online update is entirely focused on Sega Genesis games. While that does mean that you’ll need to subscribe to Switch Online’s Expansion Pack service to access these recently added games, it’s nice to see Nintendo give the Genesis library some love given the once heated hardware battles between Sega and Nintendo. Obviously, Earthworm Jim is the “headliner” of this particular update. Not only is that game still beloved by many for its strange humor and fascinating level design, but it’s nice to see that Nintendo decided to give us the Genesis version of that game rather than the SNES edition....

When Queen Elizabeth II attended the world premiere of You Only Live Twice, the fifth James Bond picture produced by Cubby Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, and the fifth to star the then one and only James Bond, Sean Connery, the monarch allegedly asked the actor if the rumors were true: was this really his last 007 adventure? Connery is reported to have replied back, “Yes, Your Majesty, I’m done.” It seemed unfathomable at the time that Connery would walk away from such a beloved and internationally renowned role at the height of the character’s popularity....

Traditionally, US TV shows cover about a year’s time within the fictional world of the series. This is largely practical; with lengthy ‘seasons’ of 12 – 24 episodes spread over the course of the academic year (September – May) by periodically going on hiatus, it makes sense that time in the show follows time in the real world. This allows characters in contemporary-set shows to refer to current events consistently, and actors to age (depending how much they allow that to show) without causing head-scratching continuity problems....

Jane Campion’s Western scored the most love in at least the Oscar nomination process with nods being picked up for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and four acting nominations, including for Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Kodi-Smit McPhee, and in a surprise, Jesse Plemmons. The competitor with the closest nomination count is Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, which earned 10 nominations, including for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. Shockingly, however, Villeneuve was snubbed in the Best Director category where Ryusuke Hamaguchi surprised by getting the fifth nominating spot for helming the Japanese film, Drive My Car....

Outlander Season 6 returns from its Easter/Spring Break hiatus with some answers for fans regarding Malva’s tragic murder. Even though our assessment of possible suspects for Malva’s murder ranked Claire very low on the scale, the residents of the Ridge are completely convinced Claire had the motive, means, and opportunity. It’s up to the Fraser family to work together to support Claire and Jamie as they remain the target of nasty rumors and speculation....

Peacemaker Episode 4 Welcome back for another week of coverage about the show featuring an obscure, sociopathic DC character who will not let anything stand in the way of justice – no matter how many people he has to kill to achieve it. That’s right: it’s episode four of Vigilante. We kid, we kid, but in its second week of airing (and fourth episode overall since last week’s premiere contained three installments), Peacemaker really does feel like the Vigilante show at times....

Is this what it takes for Tommy Shelby to learn that he has limitations? What a cruel humbling. Cruellest of course, for Ruby – an innocent victim of being the daughter of “a character in a novel” – and for Lizzie. Natasha O’Keeffe was stunning in that final monologue, collapsed in grief and rage. The women of Peaky Blinders – Ada, Esme and Lizzie – stunned throughout this episode. Talk about gold....

Fans have waited for six months but the final half of Power Rangers Dino Fury‘s second season is finally here and has exceeded all expectations. All of the plot lines that were slowly introduced throughout the show’s run came to immensely satisfying resolutions and we were even thrown a few curve balls along the way. At the center of some of the biggest stories of the season were Red Ranger Zayto (Russell Curry) and Gold Ranger Aiyon (Jordan Fite....

That said, if you didn’t have a chance to secure yourself a PS5 this week, Sony says you shouldn’t worry about console shortages at launch. In an interview with The Washington Post, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan has assured fans that “Sony will have more PlayStation 5 units ready for sale than they had PlayStation 4 units in 2013.” The PS4 sold about 2.1 million units worldwide in its first two weeks, with 1 million of those units sold on launch day, according to WaPo....

But by and large, these arguments appear to be couched in nostalgia—a wistfulness which naturally occurs when comparing the icons of your past to the ones that seem ready to displace them in the present. Perhaps for this reason it’s easy to fall into the especially deceptive trap of contrasting “then” versus “now,” and assuming the differences occurred in a vacuum. Take the current “debate” occurring on Twitter: would a young Quentin Tarantino make (and find the same level of success) today with a movie like his seminal 1994 cultural touchstone, Pulp Fiction?...

Rick and Morty Season 6 Episode 6 When dinosaurs showed up in the spaceships from Arrival at the start of this episode, I assumed we were in for another silly, self-contained, one-off storyline and it is one, mostly. However, it turns out this is the mid-season finale and therefore a lingering conflict—namely that portal travel is still broken due to an inter-dimensional rift—finally gets resolved as well. Though the episode is mostly about Rick’s rivalry with some super-genius dinosaurs from space, the portal stuff is teased a couple of times throughout, so as to set up the fixing of the inter-dimensional rift, which happens unceremoniously right near the end....

This was a joke, of course, but it was also a stealthy shout out to what The Walking Dead could have been. Kirkman originally developed The Walking Dead as a Night of the Living Dead comic. But when Image Comics encouraged him to develop his own idea so that he could control the IP, Kirkman concocted a “Plan 9 From Outer Space-esque tale of how the zombies were actually animated by an alien race that was preparing to invade Earth by disrupting its infrastructure....

Riverdale Season 3 Episode 1 “The thing that keeps me up most nights isn’t that I might get shivved, it’s that I won’t be able to graduate with you guys.” If last year was all about Archie making bad decisions, this season has him looking to redeem himself for the sins of the past…by making brand new bad decisions. Instead of doing the reasonable thing of going through the process of another trial, he accepts a plea bargain that will put him in a juvenile detention facility for two yearss....

Which is why when we sat down to speak with Emmerich ahead of his latest world-threatening event film, this weekend’s Moonfall, we felt intrigued to hear his thoughts on Don’t Look Up, an all-star disaster movie in which an impending meteor strike stands in as a metaphor for climate change, and which has surprisingly become an Oscar frontrunner in recent weeks. His answers were surprising. “It was a little bit like they missed the point,” Emmerich says about the bleak humor at the heart of McKay’s epic length comedy....

“Classic” is certainly the keyword here. Unlike Breath of the Wild’s free and open atmosphere, Skyward Sword emphasizes a somewhat telegraphed fantasy adventure made in the mold of Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and other, more traditional, 3D Zelda entries. Are there drawbacks to that template? Sure, but utterly excellent dungeon design isn’t one of them. Walking into Skyview Temple, the game’s first dungeon, I was instantly reminded of just how mesmerizing those large-scale puzzle boxes can be....

Mods, not to be confused with hacks or cheats, are fan-developed alterations/additions to a game. They can be as small as a simple unofficial cosmetic or as large as the addition of entirely new game mechanics. Some players might scoff at the concept of adding an easy mode to Elden Ring or improving vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077, but mods are an essential part of the PC gaming scene as well as one of the best reasons to own a gaming PC in the first place....
