When you think of a witch, you probably picture an image of an old and stereotypically ugly woman cackling on a broomstick or hovering above a cauldron. But if you examine all the many witches that have been a part of cinematic history since its inception, there’s actually a huge variety to the archetype. While the stereotypical witch on a broom image is still prevalent today, the supernatural figures have evolved beyond that, with portrayals of witches including teenagers, housewives, fashion-forward women, and more....

The Expanse Season 3 Episode 6 It’s very cruel of Syfy to give us such an amazing episode of The Expanse the week after announcing its cancellation! “Immolation” reminds us of the best this show has to offer, and the ending left us wide-eyed and breathless. Every moment, from Bobbie’s soaring chase to Holden’s reconciliation with Naomi, was on point and played for maximum emotional impact, whether chillingly frightening, deeply poignant, or otherwise....

When DC Comics decided to revive The Flash in 1956, they didn’t want to bring back the Mercury-helmeted Jay Garrick Flash of the 1940s. Instead, they chose to completely reinvent the character as police scientist Barry Allen. Writer Robert Kanigher and artist Carmine Infantino made a Flash suitable for the jet age, and Infantino designed a sleek costume suitable for a speedster, all smooth lines and aerodynamics, primarily scarlet but with bolts of lightning adding yellow highlights, and golden boots to accentuate the running motion of his speed powers on the page....

A combination of delays and strange circumstances deprived this year’s Game Awards show of its most obvious “frontrunners,” which means that we’re all left guessing which of the year’s greatest games will end up being the biggest winners at what is quickly becoming the video game industry’s version of the Academy Awards. Since only a fool would dare to predict which games are going to come out on top of this very strange year, here are our predictions for the winners of The Game Awards 2021’s biggest categories....

The Gilded Age ended season 1 by formally introducing the Russell family into the ranks of New York high society in 1882. Den of Geek was unable to get an invite to the Russell’s extremely spacious living room but we interviewed actor Morgan Spector to analyze George Russell’s plot during the season finale. We discussed George’s opinions on the lives of his wife and kids, the Turner fiasco, and where he believes the character is headed next season....

Robyn and Mebh, the two protagonists of Wolfwalkers, first meet like most unlikely allies do: as misinformed enemies. Robyn is a lonely girl, trapped in a town that hates her, whose solace and coping mechanisms rely on the love of her father and the desire to prove herself capable to him by killing some of the wolves that seemingly terrorize the town. Mebh, a “wolfwalker,” is wild, rambunctious, and free, and she doesn’t trust Robyn, but does save her from one of the various traps around the forest; deep down, Mebh is deeply earnest and trusting....

With a team composed of comedic writers from Seth MacFarlane’s catalog of animated shows, and Star Trek veterans such as Brannon Braga and David A. Goodman, The Orville: New Horizons has been leaning further away from the comedy, and more toward the “Trek” lately. That isn’t meant to insinuate that The Orville is derivative, as many of the comparisons have come from the same writing team who created the idea first....

But below are some of the more seasoned actors that viewers will instantly recognize and get excited about seeing in their new roles. Tom Sturridge as Dream The casting of the Sandman himself, also known as Dream or Morpheus, must have been a very carefully executed process. If Netflix got the main character wrong, it would throw off the whole show....

After decades of failed or blocked film adaptations of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, Netflix has finally broken through with a new 10-episode series, released on Aug. 5. And it was all worth the wait. The Sandman is spectacular. The series, adapted for television by Allan Heinberg, David Goyer, and Gaiman himself, follows Dream of the Endless as he is captured by a human warlock and held in captivity for 100 years....

The Simpsons Season 32 Episode 1 In The Simpsons’ season 32 premiere, “Undercover Burns,” the needs of the many are outweighed by the wants of the one. It begins on “take your kids to work day” at the Springfield Nuclear plant and the offspring which managed to make it out of the workers’ radioactively damaged reproductive systems are being culled for slave labor like inmates at a for-profit prison. This of course leads to the most intrepid isotot, Lisa Simpson, to expose the labor abuses for what they are: just another day at the plant....

Glossy legal dramas about high-earning women battling dilemmas at work and at home while wearing £800 blouses are no longer the sole province of US television. In Abi Morgan’s The Split, we now have one of our very own. It stars Nicola Walker (Unforgotten, Last Tango In Halifax) as lawyer Hannah Stern, the eldest of three sisters, mother of three, and deserter of family-run law firm Defoe’s. Series two opens three months after the death of Oscar (Anthony Head), Hannah, Nina and Rose’s estranged father, and Rose’s wedding to James (Rudi Dharmalingam)....

The DCEU is alive and well and dividing its time between Corto Maltese and Belle Reve prison. James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad gives us the most DC characters in live action in any one movie ever assembled! OK, fine, the vast majority of them die. And a fair portion of them most folks have never even heard of. But it still counts! And yes, there are DC Comics Easter eggs in the movie, but perhaps not as many as you might expect....

In that regard, the AMC series about four precocious youths 10 years into the zombie post-apocalypse mostly delivered. Season 1 of the show, which premiered last October after a COVID delay, picked up in Nebraska at the Campus Colony of Omaha before heading out on a cross-country adventure. In the process, the show formally introduced the Civic Republic, and its military arm (the CRM) that seems set to become a major antagonist for The Walking Dead franchise for years to come....

The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 16 One last mid-season finale, and that will be all she wrote for The Walking Dead. One of the biggest hits in cable television history, The Walking Dead spawned a zombie renaissance, all without using the Z-word. Two spin-off shows have already hit the airwaves, with one more definitely on the way and two other ones announced. That’s not counting all of the other media that spun up either as a response to or to ride the coattails of The Walking Dead like the brilliant Black Summer....

Vacation is officially over. Another drama-filled sojourn at The White Lotus has come to an end, filled with suspicion, betrayal, and a variety of rich people behaving badly. Since the series’ anthology format means the season 2 finale is our last outing with this particular group of characters, the show does its best to tie up its (many!) loose ends and show us how their collective time in Italy has changed their lives—for good or ill....

Crowe revealed in an interview to JOY Breakfast With the Murphys that “I’m gonna get on my bicycle. I’m gonna ride up to Disney Fox Studios, and around about 9:15 I shall be Zeus!” He also notes that this is his last day of filming on Thor: Love and Thunder. “It’s my last day of Zeus-ing about and I’m going to enjoy it.” Hopefully “Zeus-ing about” means he’ll be behaving poorly and getting his absolute ass handed to him by Hera, all with that trademark Taika Waititi wit and humor about it....

This is a bit of a surprise choice, as you can see from our very well thought out speculation being completely wrong. Gorr the God Butcher is a relatively new addition to the Asgardian mythos in the Marvel Universe, having been created by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic in the pages of 2012’s Thor: God of Thunder. But if you’re looking for big, thematic foils…he’s still a surprise choice, to be honest....

We caught up with Morgan about what it was like stepping into the shoes of Brother Blood and what his arrival means for the Titans and the future of the series… Were comic books and DC something you already had a connection with before becoming involved with Titans? Oh yeah, absolutely. My granny used to work in a charity shop, and she got a load of Spider-Man comics given to the charity shop there....

There’s a joy in being buffeted by plot but held in place by the constancy of characters who love one other. Not kissing-in-the-rain, perfume advert love, but the real stuff, the everyday-bacon-sandwich-love of friends who watch out for, rely on and rib each other – the kind of love shared by DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunny Khan in ITV’s Unforgotten....
