Clarice Episode 7 Clarice, episode 7, “Ugly Truth,” is a monster-of-the-week exploration of a cold case procedural. It also moves the overall arc along as true ugliness is found within. “Some monster killed two little kids,” Ardelia Mapp (Devyn Tyler) says. The episode opens with a hideous image, foreshadowed and cinematically darkened by the growing buzz of a swarm of flies. The opening shot is quite masterful. It takes a while for the idea to register that flies are drawn to dead things until just a moment before we see what died....

The documentary then cuts to one of Dr. Lewis’ earliest cases, the serial killer Joseph Paul Franklin. He preferred to be called a multiple slayer. While Lewis explains how she hoped, at the time of her interviews, she would not be prejudiced, the documentary explores how these were swept aside when the depth of hidden personalities became the focus. Dr. Lewis’s entire career is about deep work into the darkest parts of the mind....

Mind you, it’s easy to understand all the confusion. After all, the elusive Paladin achievement in Cuphead simply reads: “Obtain great power.” That’s not exactly the most helpful of descriptions. Sure, that “explanation” implies that unlocking the achievement is no easy task, but unlike other achievements, the description doesn’t provide any actual instructions. How does one go about obtaining “great power” in the Delicious Last Course? After some digging, we have uncovered the path gamers need to traverse to unlock this achievement....

Fincher’s goal with Zodiac was not to make a fast-paced, grisly thriller like his earlier classic, Seven, but a finely detailed procedural more in the style of All the President’s Men. The film followed the dogged efforts of a newspaper-cartoonist-turned-amateur-investigator named Robert Graysmith (Jake Gyllenhaal), a dissolute journalist named Paul Avery (Robert Downey Jr.) and two San Francisco police detectives, Dave Toschi (Mark Ruffalo) and Bill Armstrong (Anthony Edwards), as they pursued their leads — sometimes crossing paths but often independently — and hit dead end after dead end as the case took its toll on their personal and professional lives, with the Zodiac remaining frustratingly out of reach....

They seem like an unlikely pair of candidates for a superhero movie, don’t they? Adam Sztykiel is writing and directing a film that will go directly to HBO Max, and the studio has tapped KJ Apa (Riverdale) and Isabel May (1883) to play Zan and Jayna. For ’80s kids, the Wonder Twins are almost synonymous with their early experiences with the DC Universe. For everyone else? Well… So how can “form of/shape of” curious folks learn everything they need to know about these fairly obscure DC heroes?...

Honestly, I don’t have so much of a problem with the casting of Platt. (I watch The CW.) He was amazing in the role on stage, and he certainly knows the character inside and out at this point. What I think is disappointing about the casting is that it implies a lack of ambition when it comes to this adaptation, helmed by directed by The Perks of Being a Wallflower‘s Stephen Chbosky, in general....

When a game starts getting perfect scores, it’s tempting to start telling yourself it must be perfect. Well, no game is perfect, and Deathloop is one of the most imperfect major games I’ve played in quite some time. It’s loaded with obvious shortcomings that will surely chase people away from its inherently divisive core gameplay. Yet, I too am convinced that Deathloop is a masterpiece not just in spite of its flaws but, in some strange ways, because of them....

Certain persons, for their own good, should not watch horror motion pictures, the audience is told. The doctor then asks 13 questions to which a seemingly hypnotized young woman writes yes or no on a blackboard....

Serial killer dramas have a grimy reputation. The phrase conjures up lurid magazine headlines promising Sick! Twisted! Depravity! and Never-Seen-Before Crime Scene Photos! Think ‘true crime serial killer’, you think of Jack the Ripper tours and David from Psychoville poring over victim stats and working himself to a froth over all the gory details. To shake off those associations and emerge as nuanced, intelligent and non-exploitative, a drama has to work hard....

Michael C. Hall is back as everyone’s favorite compulsive serial killer, this time taking up residence in snowy upstate New York under the alias Jim Lindsay (the name appears to be a nod to Dexter creator Jeff Lindsay). Dexter is once again hiding in plain sight, but he knows that “Every day I walk through this world, faking it. Knowing if someone knows who I am, that’s it.” Dex doesn’t appear to have changed his look much, meaning that in the world of Dexter, you can still count on the FBI to be pretty incompetent....

Revolution of the Daleks Trailer: ‘Maximum Extermination!’ Also fresh from the BBC are a bunch of new images from the special, featuring newly announced guest stars joining the already confirmed John Barrowman, who’s back as Captain Jack Harkness. Chris Noth, who played unscrupulous business tycoon Jack Robertson in Series 11’s ‘Arachnids in the UK‘, is also back....
