The Mando is back on Nevarro for the penultimate episode of the season, gathering friends for a final confrontation with the Client. The fight doesn’t go the way even its double-crossing participants expected. By the end of “The Reckoning,” the Empire has arrived, and with them comes a new villain who will challenge our heroes in the season finale. At his command is an entire platoon of familiar Imperial units hailing from different corners of the Star Wars universe, plus there are a few other callbacks you might have missed while watching the episode....

After heir apparent Kendall Roy was treated like a kicked dog and forced into subservience, season 2 ended with Kendall throwing his father under the bus for Waystar Royco’s cruise line scandals. Now the family is splintered, jockeying for control of their empire while the Senate, FBI, SEC, class action lawsuits, and equity vultures Stewy Hosseini and Sandy Furness threaten to take the Roy family out of the picture for good....

Superman & Lois episode 1 was an untraditional Superman story. Its hour-plus runtime does a lot of work introducing the twins Jonathan and Jordan Kent, setting up the rationale for why the family has to move back to Smallville, and generally explaining Superman’s place in the Arrowverse these days. But throughout it all, Clark keeps having to leave his family to take on a mysterious figure in armor who has been attacking nuclear facilities....

In The Beatles: Get Back, Magic Alex develops, designs, and delivers a state-of-the-art recording console, which creates far too much hum to be usable in recordings. He also gifts John Lennon with the prototype of a combination rhythm guitar and bass. It has a swivel neck and would be impossible to tune. But Magic Alex looms far larger in the Beatles universe. All four members of the band attended Mardas’ wedding in 1968....

Everyone knows that critics are a wretched, bitter cross-section of human sewage, right? In case you’d forgotten, the first few films we encounter provide evidence of these dregs of society finally getting their just desserts. Vincent Price might be the perfect critic-slayer. Surely there can be no finer way to go than accompanied by a Shakespearian quote in the high-camp dulcet tones of a horror legend. Theatre Of Blood, Douglas Hickox’s 1973 film, lovingly restored and re-released in a neat steelbook set this month on DVD and Blu-ray, offers just that delicious prospect....

During the final minutes of the penultimate episode of The Boys’ second season, ‘Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker’, there was a mad scramble when a crucial courtroom showdown set up by Mallory and our gang went very badly awry. The plan seemed fairly fool proof: with help from the series’ very own version of AOC, Congresswomen Victoria Neuman, the team would force retired Vought scientist Dr. Jonah Vogelbaum – key in the creation of supes like Homelander – to testify about the company’s history of experiments with Compound V; experiments that are still being carried out at the secret Sage Grove Center facility, where Vought is trying to stabilize its effects on adults....

Warner Bros. has announced this year’s installment of DC FanDome, it’s massive virtual event where they lay out everything the DC Universe has planned, from comics to video games to TV to movies. You only need to take one look at the FanDome schedule to see that the DCEU remains a priority for the studio. This year promises new footage from Matt Reeves’ The Batman (whose first footage at last year’s FanDome was the highlight of the weekend), the first looks at footage from The Flash, Black Adam, and HBO Max’s The Suicide Squad spinoff Peacemaker, not to mention behind-the-scenes looks at other DCEU sequels like Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Shazam!...

DEN OF GEEK: How has being part of The Expanse changed your life? FRANKIE ADAMS: Well, when I started I was 22. I don’t think I knew much in general back then; I don’t think anyone does at that age. But I think it really showed that I can take on a role that was quite big and hopefully do it justice. This job in particular taught me how to conduct myself on set, how to break down scripts, how to have hard conversations, how to communicate an opinion really well about a character and feel really confident about what I knew....

Buried in Deadline’s November 2020 announcement that The Expanse has been renewed for a sixth (yay!) and final (oh) season, was another very important news item: Cas Anvar, who has played Martian pilot Alex Kamal in the first five seasons of the show, will not be returning for the final season. This announcement comes after an official investigation by a third party on behalf of Alcon Studios due to the many allegations of abuse and harassment made against Anvar by both coworkers and fans, some of whom were under the age of 18....

The Expanse Season 3 Episode 7 At the end of “Delta-V,” the young pilot Manéo enters the Ring and decelerates so drastically that his body is reduced to jelly by Newton’s laws of motion. In a similar fashion, the second half of The Expanse has changed direction so abruptly that it’s a good thing we’re in our crash couches because this almost feels like we’re starting over with a new season....

The Flash Season 5 Episode 22 What a mess. Taken completely in isolation, “Legacy” would be an acceptably middle of the road episode of The Flash. As a season finale? It’s almost unacceptable. Rescued only by the anti-heroics of Eobard Thawne in its final half, The Flash season 5 finale is the muddied, logical endpoint of a season that started with tremendous promise, lost its way, and never quite managed to find its way back on track....

The Flash Season 6 Episode 9 Well. Here we are. “Crisis on Infinite Earths Part Three” is the big one. It’s THE episode we’ve been waiting for since the very first episode of The Flash. The one we knew that Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and friends always wanted to do so badly that they baked it into the very concept of the series from the pilot. The one that they spent five seasons and change reminding us would happen eventually at every possible opportunity....

She also met a ghost or two, and lived in a haunted house once occupied by Star Wars’ Mark Hamill. The supernatural, paranormal, metaphysical and other “woo-woo” topics are a recurring theme throughout Yours Cruelly. The very first lines of the book recount a visit to a palm reader when Peterson was 17. She likewise details a paradigm-shifting discussion with The King of Rock n’ Roll about spirituality, religion, numerology, and astrology....

But then again, what even is history? As the popular franchise — which also included 1989’s dark and weird time-jumping odyssey Back to the Future Part II and 1990’s charming Western Back to the Future Part III — illustrated how time is more mutable than any of us could possibly imagine. So maybe this explains how it seems like Marty and Doc have been with us forever, a feeling that is heightened by the release of Back to the Future: The Ultimate Trilogy....

Now, it’s possible that you’ve heard variations of this story before that essentially amount to “Link is occasionally a bit of jerk.” We’ve probably all joked about his fondness for smashing pots and swiping at chickens at one point or another, and it’s certainly amusing to think about how some of Link’s basic actions probably would ruin a Hyrulian NPC’s day. This isn’t that, though. This particular theory is a truly wild deep dive into the Zelda universe that, at the very least, shows you how confusing and unwieldy the franchise timeline really is....

The Magicians Season 3 Episode 3 Although each of the three story arcs in this week’s The Magicians was completely separate, each had its own wow moment, making it difficult to say which was most successful. In many ways, the stage is being set for previously unknown conflicts even as the main quest continues to move forward, which is surprising for such an early episode. As a result, “The Losses of Magic” raises the stakes or adds new dynamics for several characters that we could not have predicted even as it hearkens back to earlier seasons by including elements like Alice’s parents or Penny’s psychic powers....

To be sure, Clooney’s track record as a director is also significantly uneven: the two films mentioned above are easily the best of the seven he’s helmed. Others, such as The Monuments Men and the almost unwatchable Suburbicon, have been muddled and unfocused affairs. The Midnight Sky falls in the middle of the pack. It’s his first direct attempt at helming science fiction, and while it’s earnest and often beautiful to look at, the movie falls prey to some familiar tropes as well....

Now, a decade later, with the release of a 10th anniversary edition from DAW, it looks better than ever, proving that this fantasy epic is the kind of timeless that will survive long past its initial printings into future generations.
