This of course means that Mediatonic will now have access to all of the resources and tools under the Epic umbrella. So what might Fall Guys‘ future look like under Epic? When Epic bought Rocket League developer Psyonix in 2019, it took the competitive car soccer game off Steam’s marketplace, although the game remained available to players who had already purchased it on Valve’s platform. The move to sell the PC version exclusively on the Epic Games Store pissed off many fans, which is perhaps why the company isn’t taking the same approach with Fall Guys…for now....

When a performer talks so glowingly about a movie they’re appearing in, especially during a prerecorded sizzle which kicks off an extended preview of said blockbuster, journalists might assume they’re indulging in a bit of hyperbole. Yet when paired with more than 15 minutes of Dune footage, including the upcoming epic’s opening sequences, that bit of high praise rings surprisingly true. Presented in breathtaking digital IMAX—as seemingly all of the film’s desert sequences are shot in—our initial brush with Dune’s ambitions is stunning....

Pulling from Frank Herbert’s landmark science fiction novel—or about half of it, anyway—Villeneuve reaches for an epic on the scale of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings while also not so subtly evoking imagery from the ultimate desert odyssey, Lawrence of Arabia. While it’s too early to gauge whether he’s made a true classic for the ages like those touchstones, there’s little doubt the filmmaker has engineered the most impressive spectacle you can see in a theater this year (and you really should see this in a theater)....

Which makes Baz Luhrmann’s gaudy and happily glossy Elvis a fascinating surrender to indulgence. Never a filmmaker to be accused of subtlety, Luhrmann’s maximalist instincts carve out a power ballad to the King of Rock ‘n Roll that doesn’t just revisit the Dewey Cox formula; Elvis supersizes it with a sense of starry-eyed mythology. After the first sequence where Elvis thrusts his pelvis, and girls scream tears of unbridled desire in slow motion shots that each span their own epoch, you’d be forgiven for thinking the singer had invented sex itself....

“It appears the game has found its feet again.” Enola Holmes’ riff on one of her brother’s most famous catchphrases is a succinct metaphor for Netflix’s reimagining of the Sherlock Holmes mythos. It’s familiar, a little ungainly, but cheerfully cute with its self-aware wink to the audience. And so it is that the game is very much finding its feet, or something like that, in the Enola Holmes franchise. Based on the Nancy Springer young adult book series, and featuring Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown both as star and producer, the Enola Holmes movies have been a smash with Netflix subscribers and an excellent bit of whimsy to showcase Brown’s charisma and Henry Cavill’s determination to star in nearly every franchise, with the Superman actor appearing here as a decidedly ripped Sherlock Holmes....

Fargo Season 4 Episode 3 If Fargo’s two-episode premiere felt something like a change of pace for the series — a new setting, traditional gang conflict backdrop, and a somewhat more serious tone — “Raddopiarlo” feels like a classic Fargo installment. Between the introduction of smooth-talking U.S. Marshall Dick “Deafy” Wickware, the abundance of showy monologues, and a hilariously botched heist, this jam-packed episode managed to turn up the heat in the budding war between the Faddas and the Cannons while throwing in some interesting wrinkles....

The movie was a hit when it came out, earning just under $25 million at the box office (in 1985 dollars) and becoming the second highest grossing horror film of that year after A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge. It spawned a sequel, Fright Night 2, a 27-issue comic book series, a video game, and of course the inevitable remake, released in 2011 (which itself led to a loosely-connected direct-to-video sequel in 2013)....

That estimated number comes in well above Sony’s lowball projections for the weekend, with the studio forecasting their pseudo-reboot of a reboot to open between $27 million and $28 million. It also exceeds what third party prognosticators pegged the film’s prospects at, with general projections landing around $30 to $35 million. And despite opening perhaps less forcefully than the studio might’ve hoped when the film was originally greenlit before the pandemic—Ghostbusters: Afterlife was initially supposed to release in summer 2020—the unexpectedly high number can be counted as a win for a theatrical release of a somewhat diminished brand during these volatile times for the industry....

If you did watch that trailer, then I’m willing to bet there is a good chance you were shaken by the impact of the voice that pops in around the 40-second mark. While the dialogue that seemingly disembodied character speaks throughout the trailer is undoubtedly powerful on its own (Kratos really isn’t the kind of god that has ever inspired love), it’s the quality of the voicework that likely left you reeling....

Godzilla vs. Kong is the fourth movie in the so-called MonsterVerse–following Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)–and it’s the culmination of the mythology and story arc built up over the previous three pictures. The MonsterVerse series so far has led to this climactic battle between the two most powerful Titans on Earth, and with the film’s ending leaving their futures open-ended, the question is where does the MonsterVerse go next?...

A notorious, shining example of the “great cast, bad movie” phenomenon is 2011’s Green Lantern. Making a paltry $220 million on a $200 million film budget (let’s not bring up marketing costs) and gaining near-universal derision from critics, Green Lantern is one of the most high-profile bombs of the 2010s. Featuring Ryan Reynolds as the titular “space cop,” Green Lantern also featured performances from Blake Lively, Tim Robbins, Mark Strong, Taika Waititi, Peter Sarsgaard, and Angela Bassett, with vocal performances from Michael Clarke Duncan, Geoffrey Rush, and Clancy Brown....

With planet-sized (pun intended) expectations surrounding its release, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and writer/director James Gunn automatically face a tremendous challenge: can a second adventure starring Marvel’s most bizarre band of misfits retain the same quirky charm, sense of freshness, and overall weird and cosmically comedic tone of the first movie, while pushing the franchise forward? The answer is both yes and no. There’s no question that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol....

Gunpowder Milkshake wants so very much to be a kick-ass, feminist action movie—and it is, if only by virtue of its squad of formidable woman fighters. Unfortunately, in the process, it forgets to invest in an emotionally logical narrative too. Gender-bending the traditional dynamics of an action noir is a great starting point for something new and different, but it doesn’t make a story. While Gunpowder Milkshake has some fuzzy things to say about parenting, found family, and queer community, it never commits to any of those themes....

Invented for the TV adaptation by writers Jack Thorne and Sarah Quintrell, and directed by Leanne Welham, the scene shows Mrs Coulter threatening an imprisoned Lee with violence for information on Lyra’s whereabouts. By now, we know that’s no idle threat on Mrs Coulter’s side; torture is very much in this woman’s bag of tricks. The threats, however, bounce off him. As Lee tells Marisa, he learnt at an early age that he was good with pain....

Near the end of House of the Dragon episode 3, everything seems to be going Craghas Drahar a.k.a. The Crabfeeder’s way. The mute, greyscale-stricken leader of the Triarchy military alliance has the Seven Kingdoms’ fighting force right where he wants them. The allied soldiers of House Velaryon and House Targaryen are exhausted – three years of fighting in the Stepstones appears to have made nary a difference one way or another....

Now Turtle Rock Studios, which is still made up of many of the same designers who worked on the original Left 4 Dead, wants to give it another go with the aptly titled Back 4 Blood. The studio’s fans might say it took them long enough. After all, when Turtle Rock was re-founded as an independent studio in 2011, many expected the developer’s next project to be a spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead....

Christopher Nolan’s films have always been otherworldly, from dream heists to time travelling spy thrillers, to space adventures, to superhero trilogies. Even if he does a detective story, he does it backwards. At first glance, Dunkirk seems a departure from this. No sci-fi, no time warps, no dreamscapes, Dunkirk looks like a straight up war film. But if you look a bit deeper, it’s clear that Dunkirk has much less in common with the likes of Saving Private Ryan and 1917....
