Part one is set in 1994 and is a tribute to the slasher revival of the 1990s including movies like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Faculty, while part two is set in 1978 and is an homage to late 70s and early 80s slashers, with part three a folk horror set in 1666. Shot back to back over 106 days it’s an ambitious move for Netflix, but according to director of the trilogy Leigh Janiak, it might end up being even more ambitious and sprawling than that, with the potential to build out additional films around other Shadyside murderers throughout history....

The film truly does pull from nearly every Hollywood era, but it’s all in service of ultimately good-hearted fun where A-list actors like Johnson and Emily Blunt smolder and charm their way through an exotic adventure for all-ages....

There are bound to be subtleties of art, lighting, and movement that visual media could misinterpret or outright miss. With its latest comic adaptation, and its first project from Millarworld, Netflix looks to be striving for as close a visual adaptation as possible. Jupiter’s Legacy will be based on the comic book series of the same new from Mark Millar and artist Frank Quitely. Based on a new first look from Netflix, Quitely’s art will be a major presence on the live-action series....

And in the Conjuring Kesha unscripted paranormal series, which she stars in and executive produces — currently airing on Travel Channel during the network’s seasonal “Ghostober” event, following its premiere on the discovery+ streaming service last summer — the artist has found a “reinvigorated lust for life” in the afterlife. In a recent interview for my Talking Strange paranormal pop culture podcast (available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube), Kesha spoke to me about her six-episode series, which is touted as a journey into haunted hospitals, prisons with a demonic force, secret societies, a sasquatch hunt, and a home potentially occupied by Harry Houdini’s specter....

“Robert Wise’s ‘Director’s Edition’ of the 1979 original Star Trek film will soon be ‘prepared for presentation in 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR) and a new Dolby Atmos soundtrack,’ according to the official Star Trek website. The whole process will reportedly take between six to eight months and will then debut exclusively on Paramount+, which has basically become the home for most things Star Trek these days....

The Loki season finale introduced a major character—or at least his actor—to the MCU. In “For All Time. Always,” Loki and Sylvie reach the Citadel at the end of time and are met by He Who Remains, the man behind the TVA and the Sacred Timeline. He Who Remains is played by Lovecraft Country‘s Jonathan Majors, who is set to appear as MCU villain Kang the Conquerer in the upcoming Ant Man & Wasp: Quantumania....

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 6 This episode is dedicated to one storyline that brings two of our four main groups of characters together: the Battle of the Southlands and its aftermath. Although split across three waves of Orc-led attacks and a Númenorean counter-attack, this is essentially one drawn-out battle. In between the first two phases of the battle, we also get some interesting moments between Galadriel, Isildur, and Elendil on their ship, but by their next scene they have arrived with the cavalry to join the fighting....
