Brand New Cherry Flavor is an intense, at times bizarre experience. The Netflix horror series based on the Todd Grimson book of the same name intends to capture a dream-like witchiness in early ‘90s L.A. To that end, it’s hard to argue that the endeavor is not successful. The show, run by Nick Antosca and Lenore Zion (Channel Zero), is so dreamlike, however, that sometimes it can be difficult to determine just what is going on....
When the episode did not pick up right where we left off last week, in the midst of a shower of gunfire, I was initially pretty disappointed. I quickly noticed Walt’s hairdo and the familiar setting of the RV and realized we were watching a flashback. My disappointment turned to pure intrigue and appreciation. It was nice seeing the actors recall the characters that they started as. I especially found Aaron Paul’s performance in the scene funny....

The uneven final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine continues this week with two episodes that feel like by-the-numbers installments that do little to dramatically improve the feeling that Season 8 has been a disappointment. By trying to serve two masters — responsibly telling stories about policing in a post-George Floyd world while also telling silly detective stories — Brooklyn Nine-Nine has given viewers tonal whiplash. The dramatic moments don’t quite land and can feel heavy-handed, while the laughs simply have been few and far between....

However, it turns out that Warzone‘s new Zombies mode is actually the battle royale’s best event so far and a pretty fun tribute to the glory days of CoD‘s best Zombies modes. As we previously talked about, Warzone‘s limited-time Zombies mode sees you drop into a relatively small part of the Verdansk map and battle other players as per usual. The twist is that you don’t go to the Gulag when you die; you become a zombie....

Amongst massive shifts for the long-set fall release dates of big studio films, the Universal/MGM/Monkeypaw/BRON co-produced Candyman horror reboot movie has likewise been moved from its most recently scheduled October 16 release date to the vague window of an unspecified date in 2021. Interestingly, the film’s director, Nia DaCosta, took to Twitter to provide the reasoning behind the move. However, the tweet in question—and her account—has mysteriously been deleted. As she explained: DaCosta’s explanation seemingly squelched any rumors that Candyman would switch to a day-and-date distribution strategy—à la recent release Bill & Ted Face the Music—of primarily manifesting as a premium video-on-demand (PVOD) release, with simultaneous limited theatrical showings....
