Last Thursday, which was approximately four years ago, the Radio Times was released with a new Dalek design on the cover. The slightly taller and thinner black Dalek is based on the Reconnaissance Dalek from the 2018 special ‘Resolution’, something which executive producer Chris Chibnall says is a plot point, describing the 2020 special as a sort of sequel to that episode. It looks better in the trailer than it does in a static image, and it’s been implied that the new design is a variant rather than the standard model....

The forthcoming festive special was written by Chibnall and directed by Annetta Laufer, and sees the TARDIS crew joined by Aisling Bea (This Way Up, Quiz), Adjani Salmon (Dreaming Whilst Black, Enterprice) and Pauline McLynn (Father Ted, Gameface). Here’s the official story synopsis: Sarah (Aisling Bea) owns and runs ELF storage, and Nick (Adjani Salmon) is a customer who visits his unit every year on New Year’s Eve. Each actor brings different facets to the fore, but after the character’s successful launch in Season 8 we get the tricky balancing act of the returning villain: We know that the character returns because they’re popular (indeed, the reason for their existence was the question ‘What can we do to attract viewers for the season opener?’), but in story terms, this makes them seem increasingly ridiculous. During the Xbox and Bethesda conference, 343 not only shied away from showing another scripted gameplay demo but chose not to announce a release date for the game. A short cinematic trailer introducing the campaign’s story and a sizzle reel highlighting the multiplayer component were the extent of 343’s time on the stage. At the moment, Halo Infinite is still labeled as a “Holiday 2020” game. Whether this will be enough to change the perception around Halo Infinite as a troubled sequel remains to be seen, but one thing that is sure to excite fans is the reveal that the game’s multiplayer will be free-to-play for all Xbox and PC users, with cross-play and cross-progression enabled between the platforms....

Growing up in the Central Florida suburbs in the mid ’80s, I don’t recall if I saw her syndicated Movie Macabre show but knew her from the Salem-set 1986 MTV Halloween Special, and of course the Coors Light commercials. I loved the Valley Girl voice, the spooky schtick, and the corny jokes. She was as real a person as another character I loved at the time, Pee-wee Herman, who I later learned was her friend....

We talked about the young Morse’s love life (or lack thereof), the show’s many nods to 1960s cinema, and even Endeavour’s interesting choices in facial hair. After what had, at that point, been six series of the Inspector Morse prequel, one question was inevitable. Where would it all end?
