Though Wingard is known for R-rated horror films like You’re Next, The Guest, and Blair Witch, in a recent interview with a group of journalists, he calls Godzilla vs. Kong “the most Adam Wingard movie I [could] make.” Noting that even his horror movies have an “action movie kind of feel to them,” he adds he loves sequels such as Terminator 2 and Aliens, which both upped the action quotient while feeling apiece with what came before....

But in truth, this movie could almost function as a sequel to the original Hellraiser flicks—or at least the handful of early good ones before the series devolved into straight-to-VHS and DVD self-parody. The 2022 picture is a new story with all new characters that narratively does not revisit, even in passing, the psychosexual melodrama that everyone forgets underpins Barker’s original 1987 movie, as well as the Barker-penned novella it was based on, The Hellbound Heart....

Thandiwe Newton, star of HBO’s Westworld, clearly had high hopes when she joined the Solo: A Star Wars Story cast. After all, it’s a freaking Star Wars movie, and her role as smuggler Val seemed integral to the film’s gang of anti-hero ne’er-do-wells, making her the first significant role for a Black woman in the franchise’s 40+ years. Yet, while Val—as the wife and crewmate of the shady Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson)—was there for the fateful recruitment of wet-behind-the-ears Imperial deserter Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) and indebted Wookie companion Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo), she didn’t even make it to the film’s midpoint, and was martyred in explosive fashion during a heist....

Among Hasbro’s reveals for its heralded PulseCon 2021 toy event was a Star Wars The Black Series 6” scale action figure for The Mandalorian‘s New Republic pilot, Trapper Wolf. To the layperson, the figure would appear to be just a generic representation of a body-mold-recycled Rebel pilot, which begs the question as to why it’s getting the deluxe treatment, sold for $29.99, which is well above the line’s current standard SKU price of $22....

Had War of the Worlds not been renewed for season three, the season two finale would have served as a creditable end point to the story. In it, Professor Bill Ward uses extra-terrestrial science to travel back in time to before the aliens invaded, and makes a single change to stop that timeline from ever unfurling. Thanks to Bill, the aliens never arrive, billions of people are never slaughtered, and life on Earth continues as normal....

Season 4 of the multiple Emmy award-winning The Handmaid’s Tale premieres on April 28. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen June and her dystopian world. In fact, it’s been so long that our own world decided to endure its own dystopian pandemic in the meantime. Hopefully this series’ return will mean we can keep our political and social collapses on television where they belong. Aside from The Handmaid’s Tale, Hulu isn’t brining much else to the table in terms of originals this month....

The initiative once known as “FX on Hulu” is no more but that’s not stopping the cable network-turned quality TV brand from churning out some intriguing titles for the streaming world this month. It all starts early on with season 2 of the delightful comedy Reservation Dogs on Aug. 3. That is followed up by the docuseries Children of the Underground on Aug. 13, Little Demon on Aug. 26, and The Patient of Aug....

Even this disclaimer has the tongue-in-cheek shady tone of Anna Delvey, the con artist pen name of Anna Sorokin (Julia Garner), a middle-class Russian immigrant who successfully scammed her way into the New York City social elite by pretending to be a rich German heiress. In reality, Sorokin was born in Russia and moved to Germany aged 15. She studied in London and interned in Paris, where she started using the name ‘Delvey’, before relocating to New York....

One big question facing the series, however, was how could one show possibly fit in all the story of the comic’s lengthy 144-issue run? Invincible episode 7, “We Need to Talk,” is the first season’s penultimate installment and it reveals how the show is set to approach this logistical challenge. With so many comic book issues of plot to get through, Invincible seems perfectly happy to accelerate through that plot as efficiently as possible....

As Molina’s return comes on the heels of the announcement that Jamie Foxx is returning as Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, there has been a substantial increase in speculation as to what the still-untitled Spider-Man 3 is doing. The answer, it seems, is assembling a multiversal Sinister Six. Strangely enough, the Queens-based friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has somehow become pop culture’s entry point for the superhero conception of the Many Worlds Theory....

In advance of its New York Comic Con panel “The Badass Women of The Walking Dead Universe”, the folks behind the zombie hit unveiled both a return date and a new teaser for the middle eight episodes of the show’s 24-episode final season. The Walking Dead season 11 will return with episode 9 on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC. The Inhumans are one of the most popular and important groups within the Marvel continuity. It seemed like their presence within the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a surefire thing, considering the Mutants were unavailable to Marvel Studios in the early days. A favorite of head honcho Ike Perlmutter, an Inhumans movie was even announced; one of the few projects that the company would never make. If you paid attention to the most recent San Diego Comic-Con, it would have been very apparent that the Inhumans were once again nowhere in sight....

But wait! A twist occurs as the companion uses a nearby radio to inform Russian agents that James Bond has left the cabin. It is not long before they are firing wildly at Bond as he works his way down the slopes. 007 is able to dispatch one of them by using his ski pole/rifle that, it should be noted, leaves a scorch mark on the Russian typically reserved for a close-range blowtorch....

After all, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige revealed at Disney’s bursting-at-the-seams-with-news investor’s conference on Thursday (December 10) that Jon Watts will direct the Fantastic Four movie. Yes, the same Jon Watts who helmed Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far from Home for Sony and Marvel, and who is currently shooting the third Spider-Man movie as well. Those first two films re-energized Spider-Man at the box office and with the public after the flagging fortunes of the Andrew Garfield era, and with Watts behind the camera for all three, it’s a strong indication of Marvel’s confidence in the director that they are handing him the important task of bringing the Fantastic Four back from the dead....

Spielberg also enlisted a cast of relatively low-key stars, among them Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Samuel L. Jackson (who was not quite yet the iconic figure he is today), and esteemed British director-actor Richard Attenborough. This allowed audience to avoid focusing on a single superstar performer and help keep their attention where it needed to be: on the incredible dinosaurs coming to life on the screen. “I think it was an enthusiastic cast, and Steven himself was full of enthusiasm about everything,” Neill tells Den of Geek while discussion his newest appearance in Jurassic World Dominion....
