Such is the startling setup of Lamb, a bizarre and lyrical film which on paper sounds like the punchline to a barroom joke. Yet writer-director Jóhannsson, working from a screenplay he co-wrote with the poet Sjórn, smothers any sense of humor or irony beneath an unrelenting tide of naturalism and even sentiment. Indeed, the most disturbing thing is how non-disturbing it ultimately becomes. This is a film which can be downright blissful in its domesticity....

Set in the titular Philadelphia elementary school, the series follows a group of teachers as they try their best to help their students succeed despite the school’s lack of funding and resources and the documentary film crew their chaotic new principal, Ava (Janelle James), insisted on hiring. Abbott Elementary brings awareness to an important issue, the lack of support and funding teachers deal with on a daily basis, and addresses the absurdity of the situation through comedy....

On the film side of things, Prime Video has a handful of interesting options. The latest effort to make Harry Styles a movie star, My Policeman, premieres on Nov. 4. That will be followed by the Kristen Bell comedy The People We Hate at the Wedding on Nov. 18. The film I’m most excited about, however, is the Mars rover documentary Good Night Oppy on Nov. 23. There aren’t many big library movie titles coming to Prime Video this month....

Towards the end of August on Prime, Stargirl will be streaming for UK viewers. The DC Universe show has received strong reviews and will be back for a second season eventually. If you’re already a fan of DC’s Doom Patrol, it will make for a sweeter and more teen-friendly companion show. Elsewhere, Keira Knightley’s Official Secrets is worth a watch, and there are some classic bangers being added to the Prime library too, including Gravity, The Wedding Singer, Valerian, Magic Mike XXL and The Notebook – but it wouldn’t be Den of Geek if we didn’t make Jason Statham’s action-packed shark-puncher The Meg our number one recommendation in August....

It’s extremely rare for a television series to turn out its best material in season 13, but there’s a strong case to be made for how Archer‘s latest episodes are a rejuvenated return to form that’s the most exciting the show has been in years. Archer season 13 has pushed the series and its characters to look deeply inward and the results have been enlightening for the long-term fans, but still carry weight for curious newcomers....

Over its eight decades, Archie Comics has brought a variety of new characters to Riverdale with varying results. Some, such as the friendly extraterrestrial Adam the Alien, were flashes in the proverbial pan, while other arrivals like the instantly iconic Cheryl Blossom became mainstays. Earlier this week, the company introduced Grace Alondra, their first hearing-impaired character. On the heels of that announcement comes word of the arrival of Stacy Banks, the latest transplant to “the town with Pep” who also seems determined to make her impact....

Attack on Titan gloriously defies expectations and it’s led to a final season that’s highly unconventional and explores the anime’s universe from a creative new vantage point. Excitement for Attack on Titan has never been higher now that its end is in sight and thankfully the series’ English dub has just become available to run in tandem with these final episodes. Bryce Papenbrook, who voices the series’ ever-evolving protagonist, Eren Jaeger, and Lindsay Seidel, the voice actor responsible for the final season’s new Warrior recruit, Gabi, took some time to talk with Den of Geek about the events of the final season, bringing a reality to their characters, and just what Attack on Titan means to them....

Keaton has arrived in Glasgow to film his scenes for the Batgirl movie, which will hit HBO Max some time later this year as well (most likely after The Flash officially brings this classic Batman into the DCEU). We don’t know very much about Keaton’s role in the movie, although it’s reasonable to assume that he’ll serve as a mentor for Leslie Grace’s Barbara as she begins her own crime-fighting career....

Alex Morf will be joining the cast of Batwoman as the vicious serial killer Victor Zsasz for the show’s second outing, according to reporting from EW. Morf makes the move to Batwoman from another Bat-adjacent show, Gotham, where he turned in a couple of episodes as Sykes, a gang leader during the No Man’s Land story. Morf’s resume is dotted with comic book shows, with a stint on Daredevil too....

While the MCU tends to be far more faithful to the comics than many other live-action adaptations of superhero properties, they are still adaptations. Some deviation from the comics should be expected. For example, the James “Bucky” Barnes of Captain America comics was a plucky teen who donned a domino mask and a machine gun to fight Nazis in World War II, not the handsome contemporary to Steve Rogers seen in the films....
