Mare Sheehan and Catherine Cawood are both working class, fortysomething police officers in small towns where opioid addiction is rife. They’re divorced and live close to their exes. They have a cantankerous relationship with their live-in mother/sister (delete as appropriate). They each had a son and a daughter, one of whom took their own life, leaving behind a grandson to raise. The grandson’s surviving parent has a history of drugs and violent crime, and Mare and Catherine would do anything to keep them away....

And while we still don’t have a total grasp of the full scope of the story or what our heroes are up against in this post-Captain America world, we got glimpses of new characters, a new (possible) hate group, and a good look at a classic villain’s iconic ski mask....

Fincher, who recently attributed Mindhunter’s de facto cancelation to an exorbitant budget that didn’t match its performance, remains passionate about the series, and his comments in a Variety cover story reveal a desire to eventually conjure a proper conclusion with a belated Season 3. Telegraphing loose plans for a very long arc for the series, Fincher said “At some point I’d love to revisit it. The hope was to get all the way up to the late 90’s, early 2000’s, hopefully get all the way up to people knocking on the door at Dennis Rader’s house....

The penultimate episode of Moon Knight certainly borrows a lot from fellow Disney+ Marvel show WandaVision. Our protagonist is forced to confront their past and the secrets to their fractured mental state through mystical means. While WandaVision explained the transformation of Westview, the rebirth of Vision, and even Wanda’s interest in sitcom tropes, Moon Knight gets into both his mercenary career and the genesis of his dissociative identity disorder. Or, to be more specific, we know why Marc Spector created Steven Grant and why their worlds have been crashing together lately....

Multiple Non-Kid Shows A year ago we only had vague promises of what we might be getting but now things appear to be much firmer. Lombardo says that the new “universe” will be a “a whole-world approach. It’s not just one show, it is shows followed by films, some kids’ programming.” This confirms much of what we’d heard about, including shows, a film, and kids series. What this adds is that multiple films, non-kid shows, and kid shows are being planned....

Well, perhaps we should have twigged that something was awry when Marvel also described Spider-Man: Freshman Year as “a journey unlike we’ve ever seen”, because at SDCC 2022 they unveiled a first look at the upcoming series, along with some rather baffling character details. Not only will Charlie Cox bring his voice to the character of Daredevil in the show, but it will feature none other than Norman Osborn as Peter’s mentor....

A friend of his—an ordinary, normal guy—was in Harrods one day and met a very famous woman and ended up taking her back to his flat in Notting Hill—and all kinds of nonsense ensued. And they used to meet up, whenever she came to London their affair would reactivate itself—and that was the genesis of his script....

Oscars 2021 are done, and with them we realize the strange year that was 2020 is perhaps finally in the rearview. Still, it doesn’t mean that year will leave without a few bitter surprises. Likely more than a few folks were disappointed by the shocking final moment of the night when Anthony Hopkins upset the late Chadwick Boseman in the Best Actor category. Unusually, the award was even presented as the final of the evening, and we’ve unpacked some of the implications of that here....

While last week’s Power Rangers Beast Morphers didn’t have a noteworthy plot it did have a ton of life thanks to a musical sequence we still can’t get over. It was big, fun, and showed off a ton of energy that much of the show has been lacking. Unfortunately that energy didn’t carry over to this week where we get a very run of the mill story that isn’t bad but has a very bare bones plot....

Since Hyperforce ended in 2018 we’ve heard very little about what would have occurred in the second season, partly due to the somewhat improved nature of a tabletop game. However, Meghan Camarena who played Pink Hyperforce Ranger Chloe, recently spoke to us about where her character might have gone in a second season. “Chloe was gonna go bad,” she reveals. “She was gonna join her dad on a quest to find her mom and probably do some questionable things....

Tarantino also loves books. He got grounded for shoplifting Elmore Leonard’s novel The Switch when he was 15, according to Quentin Tarantino: The Pocket Essential Guide (2004) by D.K. Holm. Leonard’s influence is all over Tarantino’s works, and the filmmaker is paying it forward. “In the ’70s, movie novelizations were the first adult books I grew up reading,” Tarantino said in a statement via Deadline. “And to this day I have a tremendous amount of affection for the genre....

Arguably the most popular film director alive, Spielberg is one of the many 1980s blockbuster auteurs that Cline giddily namechecks in his sci-fi novel about pop culture junkies who worship at the altar of the director’s 20th century output while barely acknowledging his work in the 21st. This is probably because Spielberg has largely eschewed the popcorn populism he helped define. He might still direct an Indiana Jones movie or two, but his heart has seemed to be more in wrestling with America’s past to confront our future....

Riverdale Episode 12 “You did a bad thing daddy, and now everyone knows.” With those words uttered by Cheryl Blossom to her wig-wearing father, the answer of who killed Jason Blossom was finally solved. It was the biggest — although certainly not the only — secret revealed in this rewarding penultimate episode of Riverdale‘s first season. But let’s tackle some of the other big developments before we get to the now late, and not so great Clifford Blossom....

As we’ve always been curious about what Rodriguez’s exact thoughts were on that film’s ending, it was a good time to bring up the final moments where Clooney’s Seth Gecko get into a car, leaving the newly orphaned Kate (Juliette Lewis) to fend for herself. Seth’s headed to a town called El Rey with a crime boss played by Cheech Marin, and he wants to get there solo. Given El Rey—a name Rodriguez got out of Jim Thompson’s The Getaway novel from 1958—is what the filmmaker named his TV network after, we were curious of how he views the original Seth’s fate after leaving the bloodsuckers behind....

Of course, by the end of the movie, the team has reunited and put their differences besides them. Realizing that they work best as a team, the quintet learns how to share the glory. But in real life, the situation was far more fraught. In a recent interview with Esquire Magazine, Freddie Prinze Jr., who played team leader Fred alongside his wife Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, revealed the drama behind the fictional Gang’s exploits....

Snowpiercer Season 3 Episode 4 In a world where extinction is a cracked window away, it’s only natural that the survivors on Snowpiercer spend a lot of time dealing with ghosts, but rarely is that more explicit than on “Bound by One Track.” Granted, the returning Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) isn’t a literal ghost, she’s just the manifestation of the fears and pains carried around by multiple characters in the episode....

Back when WandaVision was airing and at the height of its zeitgeist-grabbing powers, we all became a little, uh…fixated on Marvel villain Mephisto. The extra-dimensional fire demon of nightmares seemed to be a great fit for the show’s ultimate big bad. Mephisto had pre-existing connections to Wanda Maximoff and Doctor Strange (who was originally intended to be a part of the show). Naturally the Internet at large began to ponder the many ways in which Mephisto could enter the series....

Spider-Man: No Way Home certainly had an issue with protecting its secrets before it was finally released last year. Behind the scenes images found their way online and were under immense scrutiny from excited visual detectives, and the highly anticipated trailer for the film first leaked on TikTok in a format that didn’t do the film any justice, spreading like wildfire to eager Marvel fans who had been waiting to see what was next for Peter Parker and friends in the MCU’s Phase 4....

Squid Game is one of the best original series to come to Netflix in a long time. The story of a deadly competition in which 456 people try to win ₩45.6billion ($39 million) in a series of life-or-death children’s games, the class parable is as devastating to watch as it is addicting and, should it do well, there’s a chance Netflix could greenlight another season of the Korean drama. While there has been no official word yet on if a second season will happen, given Netflix’s growing presence and investment in Korea, it’s a definite possibility—especially given the possible continuing story set-ups teased in Season 1....
