Quite apart from the significant hurdles of filming anything during a global pandemic, recent announcements concerning the programme’s future – Russell’s coming back! We’re getting a new Doctor! – have firmly distracted everyone from what’s happening to the show in the present. It must be terribly frustrating for everyone involved in the creation of these episodes, no matter what their role was in proceedings, to see something they’ve worked hard on treated like yesterday’s news before the series has even aired....

Most years since Doctor Who returned in 2005 have seen an episode that delves gleefully into something supernatural, even if it does usually turn out to be aliens in the end. We’ve had gaseous ‘ghosts’ in The Unquiet Dead and an otherworldly creature rampaging through a mansion in Hide, and now it’s the Thirteenth Doctor’s turn to strap on a proton pack (or at least wave the sonic around) and go bust some ghosts in The Haunting of Villa Diodati....

The Pop-Up Book of Terrifying Things MMXXI is open to the chapter “N Is for Night Terrors,” and Dr Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) gets proactive on things which might disturb her sleep. The first season ended on news of the death of Orson LeReaux, a serial killer Bouchard tried to help the DA’s office put away. He got out on a technicality, threatened her family, and Kristen grabbed an ice axe and took off into the night....
To be clear, I do not mean this as a criticism or compliment. It’s merely an observation that the espionage thrills in Vin Diesel’s latest joy ride resemble less a 007 flick than what a child might imagine a 007 flick to be before they’ve seen one. If you asked the wee version of myself, who was raised on reruns of G.I. Joe and James Bond Jr., what Bond movies were like, I might say they’re where the bad guy has a giant magnet that catches his Mustang in the air after driving off a cliff, and the good guy then swings his car from a rope like it’s Tarzan....
Fargo Season 3 Episode 5 Sy Feltz has been my favorite character so far on this season of Fargo. Michael Stuhlbarg played a pathetic cuck to darkly comedic effect in the Coen Brothers’ A Serious Man and now he’s playing another in a TV series inspired by one of their films. Sy has gone from a posturing tough guy consigliere to a sniveling wimp who keeps making his unfortunate situation worse, yet I cannot quit laughing at how hopelessly inept this supposed “fixer” keeps acting....
There’s something undeniable about Fast & Furious: Spy Racers season 2 (subtitled Rio). No matter how wild the action gets, no matter what weird situations it has its lead characters land in, and no matter how many jokes come off as just plain bizarre, it’s just hard to shake how fun the show is. A few times throughout this second season I felt myself losing interest only for the show to do something that immediately brought it back with full force....
But everyone loves a good redemption story. The first half of season 6 was all about Morgan and his friends finding the strength within themselves to continue living despite being separated and alone. Ultimately, even the terrors they suffered under Virginia’s rule weren’t enough to tear our heroes apart. With a new lease on life and a more laissez-faire attitude towards chopping people’s heads off, Morgan has been building a new place for his friends to live, somewhere where they can truly begin to build a new, better world and be safe from future villains like Virginia....

That’s obviously five days before Christmas (fitting for another movie starring a young family, no?) and one week following Timothée Chalamet’s Willy Wonka reboot (another bid for nostalgia-pleasing, that)....
There’s absolutely nothing like being left in a dumbfounded stupor after a multi-stage con has been properly executed. Stories that revolve around conmen and grifters operate with a very specific kind of jubilation and when they’re done right there is no greater high. A perfectly planned con is no different than an immaculate magic trick or an effective third act twist. As much as cons involve the stealing of something valuable, they’re even more concerned with an understanding of human nature....

According to Spencer, the idea was to split Halo Infinite into separate releases that would be shipped out on different dates over a longer period of time.
