As soon as they get to Nana and Pop Pop’s isolated farmhouse, however, things quickly take a turn for the strange. Told not to leave their room after 9:30 pm, the siblings do just that and witness some rather odd sights....
The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 1 It’s amazing what Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been able to accomplish with Negan’s redemption arc in a few short episodes of The Walking Dead. It wasn’t all that long ago that Negan was still a villain, but a great bottle episode and a mission behind enemy lines to save Alexandria is enough to push him well down the road to a redemption arc, even if Maggie seems bound and determined not to fall for it....

A silly little detail like the immovable nature of time is not going to stop AMC from teasing its arrival, however. Shortly after The Walking Dead season 10 episode 20 premiered, AMC provided a brief teaser for the show’s 11th and final season. Though it’s only 10 seconds long, the clip does indicate a pretty shocking new direction for the show’s final arc....
Anthology television series can really be something special on a year-to-year basis if the writers of a show know their themes, continue to rework them in accordance with new characters, and respond to audience trends and desires. This is why a series like American Horror Story continues to be a powerhouse all these years later, and it’s also why True Detective whimpered after its first go-around. The first show has a strong grasp on all of these items of importance, and the latter couldn’t move forward without the novel brilliance of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson....
Even more than his previous outing with Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder takes the titular Space Viking beyond the previously established boundaries of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From wandering across the stars with the Guardians of the Galaxy to coming face to face with Eternity, the embodiment of the MCU itself, Thor found his new purpose in the most unlikely of places. But like all other MCU movies, the end of the story is not the end of Thor: Love and Thunder....
Timeless Season 2 Episodes 9 and 10 It’s clear now that Timeless has a firm grasp on the concept of changing the rules and re-inventing itself each season to ramp up excitement and broaden the scope of the show. After watching “The General” and “Chinatown,” fans are no doubt thinking that if NBC fails to renew their beloved show again after an ending like this, it will be a crime even worse than the first cancellation....
Titans Episode 8 If you’ve been reading my reviews throughout this season, you’ll know that I generally think Titans has been pretty good, with a flash of greatness here and there. But you also know that I’ve had my worries about the pacing of the series, and that it has had a tendency to give its side missions a little too mcuh prominence, at the expense of the main storyline. For example, “Doom Patrol” was excellent, and the “Jason Todd” episode was fascinating (if uneven), but both took a little too much focus off of the actual team building that needs to get done....

In 1988, the Topps Company – creators of trading cards dedicated to everything from Major League Baseball to Garbage Pail Kids – released one of the most ambitious lines ever to hit the non-sport market: Fright Flicks. Each pack included nine cards that featured images from horror movies like Alien, Aliens, A Nightmare on Elm Street 1-3, An American Werewolf in London, Fright Night, Pumpkinhead, Ghostbusters, Poltergeist and Poltergeist II, The Fly, Predator, and Day of the Dead....
However, in the 2010s some of that can’t-miss aura started to fade. While the studio was still capable of turning out heart-wrenching, deep and rewarding all-ages content, such as Inside Out and Coco, more middling efforts like Cars 2 and The Good Dinosaur started to appear. Then once the 2020 pandemic struck and forced the film industry to reevaluate release strategies, Pixar’s efforts were relegated to streaming only. Without a theatrical run, the “Pixar film as an event” has felt like a relic of the past....
Jordan Peele’s latest horror, Us, is out in theaters today and it’s great (read our review). A genuinely terrifying and also really funny political chiller, it stars Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke and sees a family tormented at the hands of a group of strangers who look just like them. The script is terrific and it’s packed with clever references and bits of foreshadowing, one of which is a reocurring image of a man holding a sign which reads “Jeremiah 11:11....
Dieu merci! My prayers were answered. After two action-heavy, plot-stuffed episodes that replaced atmosphere with incident, this week War of the Worlds got back to what really matters: existential discussions over red wine and 20-year-old songs about the fragility of mortal life. A bomb went off too, for those who prefer their apocalypse more fast and furious. Something for everybody. While the London crew were being blasted apart in every sense, Catherine, Sophia and Nathan were grieving, healing and connecting in a French farmhouse....
The third episode of Marvel’s What If…? goes in a different direction than the two that preceded it. Instead of switching roles like Captain Carter and T’Challa as Star-Lord, the third episode hides its turning point under a murder mystery. It’s an episode about the Avengers never existing, which has absolutely nothing to do with the actual comic issue What If the Avengers Had Never Been?, but instead turns out more like DC Comics’ Identity Crisis....
With a couple exceptions (the Captain Carter and Dr. Strange episodes, to be specific), Marvel’s What If…? series has had a fairly consistent system to its endings. They would end the story on one note and then tack on a cliffhanger scene that would subvert it. T’Challa as Star-Lord ends on a happy note? Well, Peter Quill and Ego might bring the end of the universe. Loki rules Earth? Well, here are some heroes who say otherwise....
