Quentin Tarantino Reveals His Big Problem With Marvel

Now Tarantino has put a finer point on his issue with the current age of mega-franchises and intellectual property obsession. Speaking with 2 Bears, 1 Podcast (via Mediaite), Tarantino reminded listeners that he grew up a voracious reader of Marvel comics and if the Marvel Cinematic Universe had existed back in his youth in the ‘80s, he probably would’ve dug those movies a lot more then. But the problem is that studios are putting almost their entire infrastructure and resources around the Marvel machine and its copycats right now, making it near impossible for a young filmmaker to come up like Tarantino did in the ‘90s by making original and distinct films with a new style or voice....

Ranking The Pierce Brosnan James Bond Movies

Brosnan was, of course, famously cast as Bond before that moment, having been slated to appear nearly a decade earlier in The Living Daylights (1987). But due to a television contract, he was forced to drop out of a role that millions of television viewers thought he was perfect for. In the interim, the world changed. The Cold War that defined Ian Fleming’s early spate of Bond novels, and certainly 007’s post-World War II persona, had ended....

Rick And Morty Season 3 Episode 4 Review Vindicators 3 The Return Of Worldender

Rick and Morty Season 3 Episode 4 Rick and Morty Season 3, wisely and perhaps unavoidably, has been leaning hard into the conceit that Rick can—but doesn’t have to—do anything. Considering this was quickly established in the show’s first season, it’s impressive they’ve continued to wring adventures out of a series with an unstoppable nihilist as a protagonist. A show with less confident writing would be at a loss for conflict, dead in the water, and, admittedly, even Rick and Morty flailed a little in season two....

Saving Private Ryan The Real History That Inspired The Ww2 Movie

“Eight guys for one man during D-Day? Never would’ve happened.” Indeed, the idea of eight men being potentially squandered during the largest seaborne invasion in history is probably a flight of fancy by Spielberg and screenwriter Robert Rodat. Nevertheless, there is a poignant, mostly heartbreaking truth which informs Saving Private Ryan’s fiction. The context can be absurd at times, with Tom Hanks’ Capt. Miller leading a group of U.S. soldiers behind enemy lines to find one paratrooper, Pvt....

Star Trek Bringing The Enterprise Home 55 Years Later

The final year of the starship Enterprise’s five-year mission has long been speculated about, but never before been given such descriptive and reverential treatment as in IDW’s Star Trek: Year Five, a comic written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly. Yet, it too must come to an end as the intrepid crew of The USS Enterprise complete their final year of exploration in this true-to-The-Original-Series story that wraps up this summer....

Star Trek Discovery S Sentient Computer Zora Is One Of Season 3 S Best Mysteries

In Star Trek: The Original Series, when the USS Enterprise computer randomly started calling everyone “dear” in the episode “Tomorrow Is Yesterday,” Kirk and Spock considered a minor annoyance and programming error. But, when the computer of the USS Discovery started getting more friendly with Saru in the Discovery episode “Forget Me Not,” it’s the first step towards a larger evolution. And, if you’ve seen the Short Treks episode “Calypso,” then you know how that evolution will eventually play out....

Supergirl S Midseason Finale Feels Like Filler

Supergirl Season 6 Episode 7 Supergirl’s mid-season finale goes for a high concept, Star Trek-feel, but the execution left a lot to be desired. Instead of being emotional, revelatory, or action-packed, the mid-season finale feels like a filler episode. While it technically manages to check all the boxes – Kara is rescued, Nyxly is coming back to National City to cause trouble, Zor-El is coming back for presumably positive shenanigans – much of the episode is a played out drag....

Superman Lois Star Tyler Hoechlin Auditioned For Zack Snyder S Man Of Steel

But Hoechlin could have donned the red cape several years earlier, as he had auditioned for the title role in Zack Snyder’s 2013 Man of Steel film. While the role obviously went to Henry Cavill in the end, Hoechlin recently reflected on the experience of auditioning for a very different kind of Superman. “I remember that audition more than almost any other and not because of the audition, not because of who the character was or anything like that,” Hoechlin says....

The Actors Who Have Played Batman

But technically, Ben Affleck and Keaton will beat Bale for appearances as Batman on the big screen next year when both return for the DCEU’s The Flash movie and Keaton makes an appearance in Batgirl. That will make four times in the cape and cowl for each actor. Sure, these aren’t movies starring the Caped Crusader but they still count! But before any more history is made with the upcoming return of Keaton and Affleck’s Batmans to the DCEU, let’s first take a look at all of the actors who have become the Dark Knight on the big screen....

The Batman Villains That Could Terrorize Gotham In The Sequel

If you’ve seen The Batman by now, it’s plain to see that director/co-writer Matt Reeves’ vision for the Dark Knight is perhaps the darkest we’ve seen onscreen to date, drenched in the brooding atmosphere and morally ambiguous tones of noir while constructed on the spine of a classic detective story. There’s virtually none of the fantastical carnival aspects of the Burton/Schumacher films and far less of the propulsive action pyrotechnics of the Christopher Nolan-directed Dark Knight trilogy....

The Best 80S Horror Vhs Cover Art

As that last point indicates, no genre is hurt more by the end of the rental store than horror. No longer did those looking for depravity need to leave their homes to visit shady cinemas in Times Square or dusty drive-ins. Now, they could go to the rental store and plan their own double-feature. To appeal to those amateur programmers, production companies commissioned incredibly eye-catching VHS covers, images that promised all the sex and violence a movie fan would want, even if the film itself could never realize those depraved dreams....
