Star launched on the Disney Plus streaming service in territories outside of the US (where Disney already has a home for adult drama in Hulu) on the 23rd of February. It’s added over 75 TV shows and 280 feature films here in the UK, including the entirety of Lost, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X-Files, Glee, Prison Break, Sons of Anarchy and Scrubs as well as cult favourites Firefly, Flashforward, Terriers and more....

Though not as dramatic as the announcement of a new Doctor, the departure of a companion always signals a shift into a new era for Doctor Who. It heralds a change in dynamic, a change in story arc and the potential for the Doctor to show a new side. Sad as it can be, it means renewal, a theme that runs through the heart of the snow. Along with almost everything in pop-culture these days, giving the brand-new Doctor no fewer than three full-time companions was something of a divisive choice....

Doctor Who Season 12 Episode 10 “Everything you knew was a lie.” Bold words, all things considered. After a series of mostly standalone adventures in the Thirteenth Doctor’s first year, we’ve already spent much of season 12 watching Chris Chibnall and his creative team circling the show’s long history, tugging on threads that have always weaved decades of canon together… well, mostly. That’s the thing about Doctor Who – it is, at its heart, a show about a quirky alien in a blue box who has adventures in time and space....

12.3 Orphan 55 The story of a base under siege, where the Doctor and his companions stumble upon a group of human scientists or soldiers who are slowly being picked off by an invasive alien force, is almost as old as the show itself. Since Doctor Who returned in 2005 we’ve seen all sorts of takes on the idea – gangs of possessed Ood, sleep-dust monsters, sentient Martian water and so on – and this week’s Orphan 55 is a relatively straightforward addition to the list, albeit with one or two plot twists to help it fit more snugly within the current run of episodes....

Let’s get it out there right off the bat: tonight’s episode Praxeus may follow on directly from the final moments of last week’s Fugitive of the Judoon, but it’s in no hurry to answer any of the game-changing questions we were left with. This is a fairly self-contained story, although it’s not completely divorced from what we’ve been watching the past few weeks, as it makes heavy use of a number of narrative and stylistic choices from other episodes this series....

“They’re not what you think they are. They’re smarter, they’re faster, they’re organized.” The revelatory trailer line, delivered by Nora Arnezeder’s character, is complemented by startling montage imagery, showing Vegas’s decomposing denizens in a meeting of some kind, seemingly waiting for the onstage arrival of a ghoulish leader—who’s clearly embracing a sense of style, rocking a robe and using a cane. However, a sartorially sultry female zombie—shown earlier in the trailer—is also shown standing prominently on the dais awaiting the undead alpha, at which point a quick closeup shot teases that they’re about to engage in a sensuously passionate kiss!...

In the new Netflix hit movie, Don’t Look Up, written and directed by satirical filmmaker Adam McKay (The Big Short, Anchorman), two rather low-level astronomers (Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence) discover a comet is headed directly toward Earth, with the object set to smash into our little planet in six months. When it does, it will completely obliterate all life. The pair of scientists, Dr. Mindy (DiCaprio) and PhD candidate Dibiasky (Lawrence), bring their findings to the White House where they are met with indifference from the narcissistic, idiotic President Janie Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her possibly even dumber bro-dude son/chief of staff (Jonah Hill)....

The first season of the DC Universe series about super powered, and always bickering, misfits ended with most of the team shrunk to action-figure size. With the sophomore outing of the series debuting June 25, executive producer and showrunner Carver thinks it’s time for the characters to grow: physically and emotionally. Along with waging war against near-omnipotent villain Mr. Nobody, as well as an apocalyptic cockroach, the team of outsider superheroes fought their internal demons, and one another, in a season that was comedic, surprisingly poignant, and delightfully bizarre....

The very good news is that it’s not actually that hard to earn the Runes you’ll need to level up in Elden Ring. As long as you’re somewhat comfortable with fighting enemies and navigating the game’s sometimes dangerous world, you should find plenty of opportunities to pick up some extra Runes and grow your character in the process. However, if you’re looking to farm Runes as quickly as possible and level your character as optimally as possible along the way, then here are a few helpful tips that should help you do just that....

Netflix had the biggest night of any streamer or network, with its Queen Elizabeth drama The Crown running a clean sweep of its categories and taking home seven awards. On the comedy side of things, Ted Lasso was nearly as dominant, winning nearly every award it was up for save for writing, directing, and lead actress in a comedy series (all three of which went to HBO Max’s Hacks). Evil Season 2 Episode 12 Pinocchio, your strings are showing. Creepy dolls don’t have to walk, talk, or wet themselves to capture paranoid attention. Chuckie, Annabelle, Talking Tina, and the Killer Krusty Doll from The Simpsons’ “Treehouse of Horror III” all bring solace to some, and torture to others. Eddie graduates from recurring character to monster-of-the-week in Evil season 2 episode 12 “D Is for Doll,” but will he live on in future episodes, or become another loose string in the fabric of the series?...

So quick question: How many folks in your theater stayed for the end credits of F9, the 10th film in the Fast and Furious saga? I know I can say everyone did in mine. That’s because with summer blockbusters back, we’ve all remembered our training to be good little Pavlovian dogs and stay for a treat after the film fades to black. And F9 just gave a juicy one too....

Battle royales are so often about being patient, long, drawn-out matches, and thinking strategically. Fall Guys pleasantly forgoes almost all of that, instead choosing to focus on short, anarchy-filled bursts of play in which 60 players scramble over one another to be the last person standing. There are 24 colorful mini-games to take part in overall, with most offering a decent challenge. And while some are better than others, it’s hard to imagine Fall Guys not becoming your next party game addiction – especially since PS4 players get it free on PS Plus this month....

The actor, director and writer, who has crossed to mainstream audiences in recent years with his acclaimed Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit, co-stars in the new Free Guy as Antwan, the narcissistic, greed-driven head of video game publishing company Soonami. Antwan has stolen code from two of his workers to use as the basis for “Free City,” the violent, chaotic game that has become a runaway best seller for his company....

These tidings have traveled across the internet faster than news of Jon Snow’s true parentage. And yet, what it means is only beginning to be grasped, as is perhaps why HBO elected this to be its first Game of Thrones spinoff to see airwaves and streaming after putting at least six pilot pitches into development. What news has thus far been unspooled about House of the Dragon suggests it will be based on the origins of House Targaryen, as well as the beginning of its decline, as chronicled in Fire & Blood....

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max is developing two more animated spinoffs of Game of Thrones, set in Martin’s world of Westeros/Essos. Coupled with a previous announcement, this brings the number of animated Thrones spinoffs up to three. The nature of two of these animated projects remain unknown, but THR’s report reveals the setting of the third…and it’s awesome. One of the three series being developed will be set in the Golden Empire in the region known as Yi Ti....

Most self-identifying nerds have struggled with that identity at some point or another. While geek culture is firmly mainstream culture these days, there are still some lingering stigmas associated with loving certain kinds of pop culture stories so passionately that you spend your time and money engaging with them and their fandom. If you’re reading this site, then I don’t have to tell you about this experience. But you might enjoy a book about it… Zoe Rosenthal Is Not Lawful Good is a YA coming-of-age story about a bullet journal-keeping high school girl who is also a secret nerd, struggling to embrace her identity as a fan/fangirl....

This is a testament to the staying power of Eric Roth’s screenplay (adapted from Winston Groom’s Forrest Gump novel), and the mythic way Zemeckis realized it onscreen. Yet the fact the movie has lingered in our pop culture subconscious for more than a quarter-century shouldn’t be entirely surprising. For all intents and purposes, Forrest Gump was hailed as an instant masterpiece in 1994 and crowned an Important Movie. While I was too young to see Forrest Gump in theaters (or even initially on VHS), I do recall the hushed superlatives adults of a certain age spoke of it....

Two Warner Bros. films of note arrive this month. The James Wan-directed horror tale Malignant premieres on Sept. 10 and is followed by Clint Eastwood’s Cry Macho on Sept. 17. The next installment in Adventure Time: Distant Lands (which is kind of like a film series!) is titled Wizard City and opens the month on Sept. 2 Of course, it wouldn’t be a new month of HBO Max releases without some interesting evergreen Warner movie titles....
