Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers just arrived on Disney+ and while it follows up on 1988’s Rescue Rangers animated series, it’s more of a thematic sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. Both feature similar concepts like a world where humans and cartoons coexist, each use the existence of cartoons to explain real life issues (racism, trafficking), and both have a freaky hybrid villain in the finale. But the main thing everyone sees is that they’re also gigantic collections of cartoon cameos....

Episode five is directed by Gareth Evans himself, who made The Raid movies, and you can see certain elements and preoccupations from those films come through. We sat down with Evans – via Zoom – to talk through the details of the centrepiece episode from Gangs Of London. “We knew we wanted to have this overriding arc throughout the entire season. It felt like we were making nine films that would be a continuing story,” he explains, of his approach to the show as a whole....

In Gretel & Hansel, Gretel (Sophia Lillis) becomes reader and subject both: She’s the beneficiary of a witch’s whims yet she’s also granted the chance to actually consider the gift offered to her. At a glance, Osgood Perkins’ film is a welcome dark take on the source material. Yet like the witch’s gingerbread house, it suffers in its construction and upon closer inspection. How interesting that the past seven years has seen two very different adaptations of the Grimm Brothers’ Hansel and Gretel, with its malleable sibling dynamic and grotesque indulgence in cannibalism....

On that note, we should mention that the GTA Trilogy has already been brought into the modern age (kind of) via various ports to more modern platforms (including mobile devices). As such, you essentially have the original PS2 games (as well as their Xbox ports), the more recent “updated” versions of these titles, and this Definitive Edition remaster. It’s all a little strange, but we’ll talk more about what changes were made to specific versions of the games when we get to certain points....

The new DVD/Blu-Ray is the first fully uncut, extended version of the film to be available. Besides restoring cinematographer Nicolas Roeg’s sumptuous camerawork, we get extra scenes which were cut by censors. The package also includes a 20-page booklet with a new essay from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ film preservationist Tessa Idlewine. The original “The Masque of the Red Death” short story was published in 1842, and it is only 15 paragraphs long, shorter than a Cracked article....
