If there’s one thing that can be said about the excellent storytelling in Lost in Space, it’s that it’s remarkably consistent in presenting a danger for the Robinsons to confront through ingenuity and cooperation, in highlighting the importance of family beyond their nuclear unit, and in fighting against those who would threaten the group from within. There may be some viewers who were hoping for more of a rollicking jaunt from planet to planet as in the original TV show now that the Robinson’s Jupiter 2 is equipped with a wormhole device, but the search for home is still about getting the entire Resolute and all of the 24th Colonist Group to Alpha Centauri....

If there’s one thing that the often-visited genre of post-apocalyptic sci-fi cinema needs, it’s a wholesome romance between two young star-crossed lovers. Someone at Paramount realized this, and, this past October, quickly went into development on the project in question, tapping headliners in Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner) and Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist). Michael Matthews directed the picture, having come off his feature debut, the 2017 South African western-style thriller, Five Fingers for Merseilles....

It turns out, however, that Cain and Abel aren’t the only one’s stuck endlessly reliving the same events. “Infernal Guinea Pig” revisits the residual pain Charlotte Richards continues to deal with even though she remains unaware of the truth behind her time in Hell....

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom tells the story of a group of 1920s musicians, composites of session players at the time, waiting for “the Mother of the Blues” to bring her big voice to the big room at Hot Rhythm Recordings. “Ma” Rainey, positively channeled by Viola Davis in the film, owned the copyrights of her songs, some of which became blues standards. Her trumpet player, Levee, masterfully captured by Chadwick Boseman in his cinematic swan song, doesn’t catch that break....

Perhaps that’s the dark magic of the movies though. Seyfried can recount early memories of Davies’ contemporaries like Charlie Chaplin, who loomed large in her childhood. Namor the Sub-Mariner sits at the foot of Castle Doom, an exorbitant spread set before him. Despite the luxury he experiences as a guest of Latverian ruler Victor Von Doom, Namor lacks his usual arrogance. After all, Namor comes to Dr. Doom with the knowledge that he failed, that his previous alliances with both the Illuminati and their villainous counterpart the Cabal have reached their end. This humbling experience notwithstanding, Namor makes his pitch, certain that Doom could not resist the opportunity to save the world and succeed where his rival Reed Richards could not....

While Marvel Future Revolution features some of the more unfortunate qualities we associate with the mobile gaming scene (quite a few cosmetic microtransactions, simplified controls, and occasionally limited gameplay) it’s actually a fairly robust RPG in its own right that might even be better than Square Enix’s Avengers game. Actually, you could argue that it comes closer to being the RPG that some fans wanted that game to be. Of course, as is typically the case with any RPG featuring multiple playable characters, some of Marvel Future Revolution‘s heroes are simply stronger than others....
