According to Twitch insider Rod Breslau, AOC’s debut stream is now “the third highest individual stream by viewership in Twitch history,” peaking at 439,000 viewers. AOC bagged more viewers than Twitch’s most popular categories, including Just Chatting, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and League of Legends on Tuesday night. As Breslau points out, the stream will go down as one of the biggest moments in Twitch streaming history along with Ninja and Drake’s Fortnite session and Shroud’s return from Mixer....

Batwoman Season 2, Episode 3 In this week’s episode of Batwoman, a contract killer is let loose on Gotham, and Ryan has to stop them before they set their sights on Mary. I want to first give kudos to the writers for being intentionally inclusive with their verbiage but not self-congratulating when they are. Victor Zsasz (Alex Morf) calling themself a hitperson is a small but not insignificant thing. Zsasz, the killer in question, is a fun creep of the week, just committing murders all willy nilly and not bringing any politics or personal feelings to the job....

To get the points system straight, we’re rewarding ingenuity (home-made beats shop-bought; the incorporation of household items into outfits will be noted), and nicheness (is anybody else wearing it? No? Good), execution (has enough effort been made or was this arrogantly pulled together at the last minute with minimal thought?). Bonus points will be awarded for couple or group costumes. Oh, and there’s a special ‘burned into your retina’ bonus, which applauds any costume that once seen, stays with you forever and gives you continual joy at the mere thought (explaining the number one spot, which is just… perfection)....

Which is why the general dearth of a wide-range of horror movies during the start of this decade has been a tad dispiriting. The relative lack of thrills is understandable; there were simply fewer movies being made during the pandemic. And yet, what better genre is there to reflect and ruminate on our anxieties? Personally, we’d argue the only truly great movie about the quarantine experience was Rob Savage’s 57-minute spookfest, Host (2020)....

Box office projections estimate that the film is set to open to between $175 million and $185 million domestically, putting it slightly lower than the original film’s $202 million opening weekend haul, but making it the third-highest opening weekend since the pandemic, after fellow MCU entries Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which opened to $260 million and $187 million, respectively. Part of the original Black Panther’s triumphant success was its massive, culturally relevant soundtrack....

The film, which was shot with minimal crew, was filmed earlier this summer in a matter of weeks after COVID-19 restrictions on filming were loosened. According to the trade, Baron Cohen and the filmmakers travelled to various parts of the U.S. and abroad in order to have a film ready for release before November. Baron Cohen is even described as rushing the film to make sure it opens “before Election Day....

“Everything on the show has a contemporary sensibility to it,” Bridgerton showrunner Chris Van Dusen told Seventeen. “Even though we’re in the 19th century, you sometimes forget about that and that’s intentional. We wanted modern audiences to relate to the show and see themselves on screen.” Speaking to Oprah Mag specifically about the Bridgerton soundtrack, Van Dusen said: “The music for us was kind of an evolution we found when making the show as the cuts were coming in....

Legends of Tomorrow Season 6 Episode 10 Matt Ryan’s John Constantine is tremendous. He’s the definitive translation of a previously untranslatable character – an enormous feat of storytelling and acting craft, considering DC has been trying (with wildly varying degrees of success) to translate Constantine out of his Vertigo roots and into the mainstream DCU for the better part of a decade now. The fact that Ryan can take this character and make him likable and entertaining and also be a fairly faithful translation of the core of John Constantine on network television is a huge success....

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is one of the biggest anime series of the past few years and with a feature film and second season on the way that’s not likely to change anytime soon. The thrilling action anime series depicts the journey of Tanjiro Kamado, a budding Demon Slayer who’s recently become orphaned by monsters and had his sister transformed into one of their own kind. There are no shortage of anime series where underdog protagonists with some variety of supernatural powers hunt deadly monsters, but the way in which Demon Slayer differentiates itself is through the powerful blades that the characters wield....
