We knew Bucky Barnes spent a lot of unexamined time in Wakanda after the events of Captain America: Civil War. And we certainly expected it to be mentioned in Marvel’s The Falcon and The Winter Soldier to some degree. Even still, it was a pretty massive surprise when, at the end of the third episode of the new Disney+ Marvel streamer, Bucky finds a trail of Kimoyo beads leading him to Wakandan bigwig Ayo, a major guest appearance from a Black Panther character....

The Flash Season 3 Episode 17 I hate musicals. I never watched Glee. I only thought “Once More With Feeling” was OK. I like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend in theory but haven’t watched since midway through the first season. I fell asleep trying to watch La La Land and the odds of me giving it another chance are directly proportional to whether or not my parents want to watch it when I’m visiting them....

The Flash Season 4 Episode 3 Well, the good news about “Luck Be a Lady” is that the sudden pivot to all out Legends of Tomorrow style humor is still working. The jokes are funny. The tone is bouncy. This cast is extraordinarily well suited to rocketing from joke to joke, and their comic timing is impeccable. I need to get this out of the way up front, lest you all think that I have a problem with the new direction the show is taking....

After eight episodes of following doppelgängers in blonde wigs, it turns out they were red herrings—the real threats came from the natural blondes....

The Magicians Season 3 Episode 10 Amazingly, The Magicians this week was able to reframe a compelling side story, the rescue of the fairy slaves, as the main plot while still addressing the more important quest for the sixth key with an enticingly incomplete narrative. Even Penny’s subplot presents some interesting new wrinkles (not unusual for the Traveler) while Margo and Eliot’s stubborn grip on the Fillory throne unfortunately continues to be the weakest storyline....

Too many people trying to watch Mare” Sure enough, the anticipated finale for crime drama Mare of Easttown was not loading on the WarnerMedia streaming service HBO Max and it would remain inaccessible for around 25 minutes. The Internet reacted with disappointment similar to Mother Bojalad. Thankfully, HBO Max got itself into fighting shape and Mare of Easttown was eventually available to stream....

The Orville Season 1 Episode 12 Although parts of The Orville’s season 1 finale may have been a bit predictable, the allegory surrounding the role of religion in developing civilizations was smoothly executed with a few surprises along the way. As a cautionary tale of the dangers of interfering in primitive cultures, “Mad Idolatry” showed exactly what would have happened on Star Trek had there been no prime directive, and as the final word on Ed and Kelly’s reconciliation, the finale continued the healing needed in their relationship while tempering our expectations of re-emerging romance....

But it did, and it still feels so right to this day. Forget Ecto Force. Phh. Who needs that? (Besides me?) I propose a new, rebooted Real Ghostbusters animated series that features the new female cast. Though I’m sure Melissa McCarthy’s character Abby Yates would have inconsistent hair coloring for no apparent reason. But until that day comes, let’s just appreciate what we have, shall we? Ah, DIC. What would my childhood have been without you?...

Episode 4 of The Rings of Power featured numerous references to Elrond and Galadriel’s fathers, but with most of their activities having happened in the First Age, which the series isn’t allowed to adapt, the explanations around them were a bit vague. So who exactly were they, and how are Elrond and Galadriel likely to feel about them by the time of the series? Elrond does give Durin a basic outline of his father’s story in their conversation in “The Great Wave....

Based on the trailer for The Rings of Power episode 8 released at New York Comic Con, rumors of Sauron’s reappearance have not been greatly exaggerated. After weeks of theories about which character is actually Sauron in disguise, it seems as though his true identity (identities?) will finally be revealed in the season finale. But the Sauron reveal isn’t the only hint in the finale trailer. A brief glimpse of a molten forge indicates that we may also finally get to witness the creation of the titular rings....

Understandably for a show called The Sandman, much of Netflix‘s series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comic is concerned with the journey of Lord of Dreams, himself. And yet, both Gaiman’s comic and Netflix’s show still have six other members of “The Endless” to portray. Among the most interesting of The Sandman’s “siblings” is Desire, played by Mason Alexander Park. Desire is the third youngest of The Endless and the twin of Despair (naturally)....

A lot of people have been looking at Shannara, turning up their noses (prematurely) and saying, “Gross! It’s a Game of Thrones rip-off! Somebody step on it!” Settle down. It’s okay. The Shannara Chronicles isn’t a blatant rip-off of Game of Thrones; it’s just marketed that way. And despite having superficial things in common, like visual cues and the scope of its storytelling, both shows are not made from the same cloth....

The Simpsons Season 34 Episode 5 Pennywise doesn’t do kids’ parties, so The Simpsons called on a local clown so desperate for laughs he’ll play any house. Krusto the Clown only gets bookings every 27 years. That’s just a slightly better average than Krusty the Clown, who was lucky to get cast by “Treehouse of Horror” for its tag team production of Stephen King’s It. “Not It,” the title claims, but there are no backsies....

The trailer dropped this morning at the end of a 30-minute digital NYCC panel. The Josh Boone-helmed, nine-part series looks — from the scenes we saw — pretty damn faithful to Stephen King’s epic novel, which was originally published in 1978 and filmed once before as a four-part ABC miniseries back in 1994. Take a look: The book begins with the escape of a biological weapon — a virulent form of plague — from a government lab and its destructive path across the United States and the world....
