That is all happening on New Year’s Day in the Doctor Who holiday special, “Revolution of the Daleks.” Debuting on BBC-America at 8 p.m. ET, the January 1 episode picks up from the action following the twelfth season of the revived 56-year-old series, which aired this year from January to March. Just to recap, that canon-shaking season brought The Master back, regenerated once more as a male human; traveled to Gallifrey, reduced to ruins (again); introduced Time Lord Cybermen, aka CyberMasters....

Fittingly for a drama about a detective with a taste for The Times cryptic crossword, the murder mystery is far from the only game in an episode of Endeavour. As we explore here, the prequel’s films feature nods to pop culture contemporary with the episode’s time-frame, references to Morse’s past and future cases, and of course, the traditional hat tips to the character’s creator Colin Dexter. Series 8 takes place in 1971 and so winks at Get Carter, Mr Benn, the first Confessions of a Window Cleaner book, all released that in year, among others....

If our survivors thought the zombie apocalypse marked humanity’s rock bottom, they were sorely mistaken....

Harley Quinn Episode 13 There really couldn’t have been a more appropriate title for the final episode of Harley Quinn. After three months of solid humor, violence, and appropriately foul-mouthed jokes, the season came to a rather disappointing end as Harley Quinn (temporarily) fridged Poison Ivy, killing off one of the best parts of the animated adult series as well as cutting off any potential closure around the relationship at the heart of the show at the proverbial roots....

It doesn’t feel like we’ve earned a reunion yet.” In true Weasley-ian fashion, Grint has intuitively identified something slightly off about this whole thing right from the get-go. Perhaps the Potter team hasn’t earned a reunion yet. Though the Warner Bros. series of films based on J.K. Rowling’s books began with Philosopher’s Stone in 2001, it ended just 10 years ago with Deathly Hallows Pt....

Hulu and David Bruckner’s updated take on Hellraiser deepens the lore of the franchise in gruesome ways, setting up inevitable new stories and sights yet unseen in the Cenobite saga. The unsavory fates of struggling addict Riley (Odessa A’zion) and monstrous billionaire Voight (Goran Visnjic) we see at the end of the movie act as parables of sorts, illustrating in different ways how one’s obsession with life’s excesses can ultimately lead to an existence defined by pain....

So once again, it’s fair to say that if someone tells you to read words in an unknown language while performing a ritualistic séance, you always say nope. Or at least that is one of the many things to take away from Ari Aster’s relentlessly creepy Hereditary, a hellish marriage of The Exorcist, Rosemary’s Baby, and just genuinely bizarre weirdness. The new film includes an ending that is pretty straightforward considering that Ann Dowd’s Joanie is on hand to explain to the possessed body of Peter that he is now the newly reborn “King Paimon,” but you might be going… who the hell is King Paimon and how did we get there?...

The evaluation would’ve probably amused the writers who first began spinning Hocus Pocus’ bewitching web in the 1980s. Originally the brainchild of writer/producer David Kirschner (who would go on to help create Chucky and the Child’s Play franchise), the first draft of Hocus Pocus was penned by Mick Garris (future creator of Masters of Horror). And the pair initially imagined it to be a darker movie for a slightly more adolescent audience....

Hence Hocus Pocus 2’s fundamental dilemma. Redoing such iconography is always the greatest intimidation, yet biggest audience expectation, that comes with remakes, reboots, and legacy sequels. And it’s a kind of credit to Hocus Pocus 2 that the movie is unafraid of going full tilt for it. In fact, the most lavish of the three(!) musical sequences in the sequel is bigger than anything seen in the original, at least in terms of extras: Midler and company, as the resurrected Sanderson Sisters, stand once more on a stage in front of the adults of Salem, and this time have a whole Halloween festival at their command....
