It’s what has drawn him toward adapting novels from horror legends like Shirley Jackson, Henry James, and Stephen King....

While production on The Forest was mostly completed in Serbia, there was a week of shooting in Japan that allowed Dormer the chance to venture to the actual Aokigahara where hiking and greenery is punctuated by signs urging the distressed to seek suicide hotlines. Like every other part of the MCU, Yelena Belova has her roots in the comics. First introduced in 1999’s Inhumans #5, Yelena was created by writer Devon Grayson and artist J.G. Jones as an antagonist and eventual ally to Black Widow Natasha Romanov. Given the important role that Belova played in Black Widow and Hawkeye, and one that she is also poised to play in phase five, one would think that her creators would be fairly compensated....

Much has already been said about No Way Home marking the end of an era for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. The movie completes the trilogy of Spidey films Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios set out to make, starting with 2017’s Homecoming and followed by 2019’s Far From Home. But No Way Home producer Amy Pascal has confirmed that, while this is the end of the Homecoming trilogy, this won’t be the end of Holland’s time in the suit....

On October 4th, Overwatch 2 finally launched. Well…kind of. The game is currently plagued by server issues and technical problems that prevent players from logging in, or, at the very least, actually enjoying matches. Actually, it’s the DualSense controller that’s making the biggest impression so far. While early PS5 owners only have access to one next-gen title at the moment (built-in platformer Astro’s Playroom), that game effectively serves as a showcase for both the abilities of the PS5 console and the many ways that the console will be defined by the abilities of its controller. That may sound sensationalist, but a quick rundown of the DualSense’s best features reveals why Sony’s new controller may just be next-gen gaming’s best....

For example, the request “To Bloom or Not to Bloom” is the bane of many players’ existence because it asks them to show Kichi of the Agriculture Corps a completed Pokedex entry for Cherrim. On paper, that doesn’t sound too difficult since the requests “Adorable Starly” and “The Timbre of the Fields” tasked players with filling out Pokedex entries for Starly and Kricketot, respectively. However, those two Pokemon are fairly common, especially in the beginning areas....

The latest set in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Vivid Voltage, is introducing a brand new tier of rarity: the Amazing Rare. Distinguished by gorgeous watercolor rainbow art and a distinctive ‘A’ symbol, six Pokémon are part of the initial wave of these highly sought-after cards. Though the six do vary in terms of strategic offerings, all Amazing Rares are subject to the following: they are Legendary or Mythical Pokémon, Basic, and require three different types of Energy to use all of their attacks....

Even though Possum presents a highly stylized story with plenty of disturbing and confounding visuals, this is really an internal tale about repression, living with past grief, and the power of guilt when it festers and isn’t confronted. It also eloquently explores deeper material like whether it’s possible to truly overcome past compulsions or if they’re always with us and just lying dormant. Possum may examine such heady issues, but it never shows its hand in such regard....

Prophecy on its face seemed to have more going for it. The director was John Frankenheimer, the man behind masterworks like The Manchurian Candidate, Seven Days in May, and Seconds, while the writer was David Seltzer, fresh off his horror classic The Omen. Paramount sunk $12 million into the film, which starred Robert Foxworth (Damien: Omen II) and Talia Shire (Rocky) as a doctor and his wife who journey into logging country on behalf of the EPA and learn that a local paper mill is polluting the waterways and turning the wildlife into mutants–including one very large abomination that is killing everyone who gets in its path....

Which next-gen console “won” 2021, though? Well, that question is obviously somewhat subjective and largely based on a year that was anything but typical, but as 2021 comes to a close, now certainly seems to be the time to declare the year’s “winner” as best as we’re able.
